For those who got accepted to JHU, did you do four years of language? And also, if you did get accepted, what do you think got you into JHU?

Hi! I was accepted for the class of 2018 and I took four years pf spanish during high school. Two of the years were regular classes, one was honors, and the one I am currently in is AP.

I was in complete shock when I was admitted to Hopkins because I didn’t think my stats were as strong as other people I had encountered on forums like this. I am strong academically, but I’m not in the most difficult science/math my school has to offer and, while high, my grades are quite average in comparison to all of the other students in my honors or AP classes. There is a supplement essay on the Hopkins application and I strongly believe it was the thing that got me accepted. In it, I talked about my work with people with special needs and talked about research I would like to do in that area. But when I talked about it, I didn’t go on about detailed science projects and internships; I just talked about how I wanted people to understand and respect people with IDDs the way I do. I could have talked about revolutionizing the world of science or finding cures/therapies that would help improve health services. Instead, I explained that maybe if people understood IDDs more, then they wouldn’t be afraid to interact with people with special needs. I said it because that is the most important thing to me.

So basically, be genuine. They want YOU, not your test scores. After a while, SATs, clubs, internships, etc. blend into one another and it is easy to get lost. Show them a real passion for learning. Don’t list accomplishments thinking you can impress your way in. A genuine attitude will get you much further!

I hope you apply in the future and good luck!

THank you for your time writing a comment for me! This really helps! DO you think it will be ok if I took spanish 1 reg, spanish 2 and 3 honors, and spanish 4 reg again? And also if you don’t mind can you tell me about your stats?(SAT, extra-curricular.etc)? It would also be a great help to me! THanks! :)
