Johns Hopkins University

Hi, I'm new to this site, so please treat me kindly.
I'm going to ask a personal question.'

I'm applying to Johns Hopkins early decision, because over the past summer, I fell in love with the school. But despite this, I'm worried that my (low?) GPA won't let me get in, even with the 60% ED acceptance rate. Here's me:

US Citizen (Asian)
GPA- 3.43

Courses-
APs- Bio, Chem, US History, Lang/Comp, (Will take) Physics, Calc AB
Honors- English (12)
Took summer Pre-college Engineering course @ JHU (got college credit)

SAT Scores-
2220 combined (math, reading, writing), 1500 (math, reading)
Will take SAT Math Level 2 (Looking to get 750+)
SAT II US History - 720
SAT II Chem - 670

Extracurriculars-
Model United Nations (4 years, co-president senior year)
Book club (4 years, president senior year)
track team (4 years)
robotics team (2 years, president senior year)
speech team (2 years) + distinction
student council secretary (senior year)
Applying for Army ROTC Scholarship

Could someone tell me if I have a fighting chance, or if it's a REALLY big reach?
Is there anything I can do (besides working like crazy during 1st sem of senior year) to improve my chances?
Thank you!!

I’m applying for General Engineering too, btw. I don’t know if that’ll change my chances.
Also, I think I have some pretty solid essays for Johns Hopkins as my supplements in addition to (in my opinion) an awesome essay for my Common App.

Not to be pushy, but can someone gimme an estimate of my chances?

bump. i need help people!

Chances are very slim due to low GPA and lack of engineering extra curriculars / awards.

My robotics team won the Japan Regional Championships for VEX Robotics and went to the World Championships. Does that help at all in regards to the engineering ECs?

That definitely helps, you didn’t post that originally so I had no idea, but I am sure that it will be looked highly upon in your application. I would even advise you to write about that as your most important EC on the common app so that they can see how real your interest in engineering is :)

thank you so much!
also, how would johns hopkins look at my application, especially with the pre-college course that i took there? i got credits for it this summer

Depends on your grade  lol.

the credit system went by A, B or no credits. I got a B. That won’t look bad, right?

It’s not as good as an A, but I don’t think it will look bad. The fact that you took classes in your free time shows devotion, I feel.

ur gpa is a little low is this ur weighted or unweighted?
ur sat is good
my sister got into JHU last year with a 4.2 weighted gpa and a 2050 so u have a chance
wat other schools are u considering?

it’s weighted. yeaa… it’s REALLY low so that’s my biggest problem. i know for a fact i can bring my gpa to a 3.52 by the end of 1st sem though.

i’m looking at Penn state (PA resident), purdue, UVA, UMaryland, WashU @ St. Louis, villanova, and carnegie mellon

It’s a reach (because of your gpa) but its worth a try. Im not sure if John Hopkins considers SAT II’s but you should try to get two or three of them above 750+ to increase your chances. Good Luck :)
