Johns Hopkins Waitlist 2023

Starting this thread. Good luck to everyone who is waitlisted!

Any one finished their IOCI?

LOL they accepted 3 people off the waitlist out of 1600. Not wasting time writing a LOCI

@recursionrocks I saw that number for class of 2022, but Hopkins admitted 112 of 1412 for class of 2021 and admitted 187 of 1747 for class of 2020 (assuming the stats I saw were correct). So maybe 2022 was an unusually large class or had a much higher percentage of kids accepting RD?

@4togo4 The new 100% match of demonstrated need kicks in this year from the 1.8B donation. That means FA packages are virtually unmatched and will lead to significantly higher yield.

@recursionrocks I agree that the yield will be higher, but I’m a little skeptical about the 100% match. I met a woman at SOHOP last week who has twins entering college this year. Hopkins offered her daughter zero and Brown offered her significant financial aid. She was perplexed at how there was such a huge difference from the two institutions. But that’s just one person…

Not getting my hope up! The Waitlist pool is so stupidly big that it can fill an entire extra freshman class.

I emailed my regional admissions counselor with an update and she told me that they will definitely not be using the waitlist this year and said: "Since we are already experiencing an unexpectedly high response rate to our offers of admission, we are at risk of over-enrolling our freshman class and do not expect to go to the waitlist during any point of our process”

@recursionrocks dude I thought you said before that you weren’t gonna write an LOCI…

Is it too late to send a LOCI?

@PostMalone23 No, you still got a shot

I just called the admissions office and they told me THERE IS STILL a chance that they will go to the waitlist. Don’t lose your hope yet, but also don’t get your hope too hyped up.

@PostMalone23 someone posted on another thread that the JHU waitlist is closed. Might want to check with admissions. Oops…#11 has more up to date info.

@vpa2019 can you send me a link to that thread?

@haoruishuzhen I don’t know how to post the link but this is the thread title: What waitlists are active? Who has closed their waitlists? It should show up under latest posts.

Anyone have a definitive answer on whether the waitlist is closed or not?? Also is it bad to have sent a LOCI during late April or do they not start reviewing those until May 1st?

I was told they would not be going to the waitlist and have had that confirmed by multiple people. If they do end up going, it wouldn’t be more than 1-3 people.

I know that you can’t accept a place on their waitlist anymore…I already did. Also, will they start reviewing waitlisted applicants when they finally decide to go to the waitlist?

Is it normal for a regional admissions counselor to write you a pretty bland reply (e.g. thank you. I will add this additional information to your application) ?

I would say yes - bearing in mind that if JHU goes to its WL, it will be for a very small number of applicants. Sending you anything more than a bland response might encourage false hopes.
