I'm a sophomore in high school and I'm really interested in Johns Hopkins University. I am not very involved with school activities like leadership or clubs however I am a participant of National Honors Society. I have an average GPA of 3.5-3.75, I do believe that by the end of the year I could have that up to a 4.0. I play softball both for the school and club ball but I know I am not doing enough if I want to be a student at JHU. In the following years, as a junior and senior, I plan to do running start at a local community college, I am curious if this increases my chances of getting in, decreases it, or if it does nothing at all. Any suggestions that would make me a better applicant for this college would be great! Also any other colleges that you think would be a good match would be welcome!

Hey, I was recently admitted and what definitely helped was a) having a passion that really came through in my app and b) early decision! (if you’re dead set on jhu come senior year do ED).

As for other colleges, it all depends, what are your interests?

How early of a decision? When can I submit an application?
I’m really interested in being a pathologist. I love a challenge and solving puzzles. I thought about criminal justice schools and becoming a detective or something to solve crime. But on the other hand I really wanted to be a doctor so I found the career of a forensic pathologist which has a little bit of solving crime. I’ve always had a thing for being a doctor and I just can’t see myself doing something else.

It is great you are taking an interest in College Planning and stuff, but your sophmore year is a little early for chancing, as you don’t have definitive data yet. GPAs go up and down and you have no test scores.

Honestly, it is probably better to hold off on ACT/SAT testing until the end of your Junior year, as you will have covered more material in school by then.

The best thing you can do right now is maintain your grades and take any SAT Subject Tests that apply to classes you are taking this year.
