According to the W&L admissions blog, the finalist letters for the Johnson Scholarship were mailed today.

Is anyone else going to be checking their mailbox every day? :)

Out of curiosity...how many people on here applied for the scholarship? I don't know why applicants wouldn't apply for the scholarship, unless of course you know you can afford the full tuition without any financial trouble...

I applied but have no hope or expectations. Average ACT/SAT/class rank is 34, 1510 and 2%. I have a 31, 1320/bad subject tests, and no rank. It was just to show more interest in W&L…it didn’t cost anything to apply, so no loss there. I’ll be disappointed when I get my nonfinalist letter but I know I wrote a great essay and it’s not the end of my hope for W&L just yet.

I’m not expecting much, either, because I understand how tough the competition is. I guess I’m just excited to hear some sort of news from one of my top schools. I love W&L, but it would be pretty difficult for my family to pay for a W&L education without the scholarship. That said, I’m trying to not get my hopes up because of how slim the odds of being a finalist are.

I applied. I’m also trying not to get too excited. I really didn’t know anything about it until they sent me a fee waiver and applied on a whim, but I really love the school now after researching it. I have a 34 ACT but judging from the posts on here, you have to have a lot more than that as well. Plus, my essay on the main application was totally screwed up in formatting after I sent it…all my paragraphs combined into one so I kind of look like I can’t write at all, haha. Did that happen to anyone else?

That actually happened to me too. I’m hoping that it was an error in their system. Anyway, I really would love the scholarship…although it does not determine whether or not I can pay for W&L.

Good luck to all, congrats in advance to all finalists, and to all non finalists, don’t give up hope yet!!!

I applied as well, but just to demonstrate interest. I don’t really think I have a chance. I am, however, excited to hear about EDII in the next week or so!

Does anyone know if they e-mail or mail the letters to students living overseas? I’m not sure if I should be checking the mail now! Even if I was to be chosen (highly doubtful though), my letter wouldn’t arrive until Tuesday at the earliest I’m also looking forward to the ED II letter though!

I can’t believe the letters are already sent out! I am definitely not mentally prepared to open it:) I wasn’t expecting it until some time around the 31st! I’m sooooooo nervous. I really don’t think I’m going to get anything, but my interview went really well, so I hope that helps me at least a little. Does anyone know how they were sent and how long it usually takes?

In terms of when you’ll get it, it really depends on where you live. I had a really good interview too (Prof. Knudson anyone?) but my stats are not enough for the Johnson and I’m a Caucasian female. I hope I get into the school though.

Well, DS wasn’t invited for an interview, so I assume that means he’s out of the running. (Haven’t seen any letter yet.) Not a biggie; he wasn’t planning on enrolling. The Johnson was the only reason he applied. Definitely NOT a Greek/prep-type kid.

But, if the interviews were at semi-finalist stage, I wonder why they didn’t at least let us know that he’d been eliminated at that round? We haven’t heard a thing from W&L in ages, except an acknowledgment that they received our mid-year report. Very strange.

Just got mine today. It was definitely a pleasant surprise!

Btw, could someone clarify if being a finalist means you’re automatically accepted into W&L? Its the first college I heard back from and I’m getting jealous of seeing all the “____ got in to _______” facebook statuses!

I’m just going to assume that not getting anything today means rejection is coming to my house in the next couple days. Congrats to all the finalists!

red guard, it means you’re in unless you do something stupid on campus or reject the offer to come to the competition.
