Here is the quote from the website
“Students selected as finalists are notified in late January and invited to attend the second stage of the competition, which takes place on W&L’s campus in early March.”

@kickemoff posted on 2-1-2014 that ge or she had been denied, so I believe it is safe to assume that end of January in 2014 meant 1-31-2014.
Ah, I just read over the response email my admissions officer sent (Jan. 16) and it said:
“You will receive a letter regarding your status in the Johnson Scholarship Program in early February.”
Everyone gets a letter in February - good or bad - so I’m sure the congratulatory emails are sent out this week. Also, is anyone else a Morehead-Cain Finalist at UNC-Chapel Hill? I wonder if the Johnson weekend is structured similarly to Carolina’s.
Now I feel like I don’t have a chance
I have a quick question: If we don’t receive the Johnson Scholarship and we applied Regular Decision, is there still a chance we’d find out in March or April whether or not we are accepted into the school? Because, correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the decision for the JS supposed to be whether or not we’re finalists?
If you get invited to Johnson weekend you are admitted. If you don’t get to Johnson weekend even then you have to wait until the normal RD decision date (that’s what happened to me).
Do you automatically receive some type of tuition stipend if you’re selected as a finalist? I know they hand out more than just the Johnson.
@clarelmac No, but you are correct that there is more than just the Johnson (Weinstein, R E Lee, etc.). But, just making it to Johnson weekend doesn’t guarantee anything.
any hint of release? EDII is Friday Jan 30 at 8pm Eastern. Do they announce at the same time?
I stalked the W&L Admission’s twitter (maybe a little obsessive, but hey) to see what they posted last year. On February 3rd, they said:
“Notifications for Johnson Scholarship finalists/non-finalists are in the mail! International students will receive theirs via email. #wlu18”
I read on another Johnson feed that emails will be sent out this week (!) to the finalists. So, according to that logic, if we don’t receive an email by Friday night, we’re not finalists. Can anyone attest to that?
There are so many variables throughout this situation that I would not put the ultimatum that no email means no Johnson, but I would still think that it will be announced this week. Does that make sense?
@mxl2015 Yes, that does. Thank you! I’m so enamored by W&L, but I’m not a fan of their vagueness haha.
Best of luck to you in the process!
sorry im late to the party, but im still waiting on news about the johnson scholarship as well. Are finalists notified by email as well as regular mail?
I’ve heard both ways and, frankly, I have no idea.
I heard from my adcom today and she said, “We will be sending out notifications for the Johnson Scholarship at the end of next week so you can anticipate to hear from us shortly.” It seems to me, then, that we’ll be hearing a little later than we are perhaps expecting.
@amanda19 Based on previous years, everyone gets mailed a letter, accepted or rejected, but accepted will get an email ahead of time.
We’re receiving our decisions from the end next week to the beginning of that following week; my college counselor spoke on the phone with the director today. There was no mention of a finalist email, but the practice seems logical. Ahh, the waiting continues…
Anxiously awaiting! I hope it comes next week, since it doesn’t seem like it will be arriving before February
Yes, the Website said “Late January”…maybe it was mistype of “Later than January”
That darn autocorrect!
