Does denial on Johnson's scholarship most likely predict a negative result on RD, reject or wait list? Thanks for all your input!

Not at all. Out of almost 2,200 students, they only picked 210 Johnson Scholarship finalists. Therefore, many of the other student will still be accepted in the RD round. Hope this helps, and good luck!

does anyone know how much of the incoming class is supposed to be picked throught EDI and EDII?

I wonder how much difference on qualification for Johnson VS. RD. Thanks.

I have a friend who got in ED 1. She found out that they took about 40% of the class. I would guess another 8 - 10% for ED2.

I applied for a Johnson and was turned down (my stats, EC and vol wre almost exactly the same as some posters so I have no idea why they told me no, except that I am from a major market). I do know the Johnson students are pretty much the cream of the applicant crop so they would be considerably better than the average RD applicant. Good news for me is that the other scholarships I applied for are still alive and kicking. Whew!

D did not receive Johnson Scholarship last year (nor was she invited to interview) but was admitted RD.

Don’t worry about not getting the Johnson. I didn’t realize it until I got on campus, but the school uses the Johnson to add diversity to the class. So you’re spot out of luck if you are, well, normal.

@Gatsby–What’s “normal”?

LOL. Don’t worry, I know plenty of people who didn’t get invited for the Johnson competition who eventually got in and attended. Gatsby is correct in that the school does try and use the Johnson to attract more diverse students, who would otherwise have gone to the Ivies.

Diversity in this case can mean almost anything. Anything from being a chemical engineering major to being geographically diverse (ie internationals or a northerner or w’ coaster) to having an interesting story or set of talents. Speaking for myself, as a New-Englander I had never heard of W&L and I was set on heading to an Ivy. The thing that got me to take a look at W&L was the Johnson, and what made me choose W&L over an Ivy or some of the schools closer to home was the Johnson. Knowing what I know today about W&L would undoubtedly have expanded what I made my decision on, but as Gatsby says the Johnson is often useful in letting kids know about W&L and getting them to take a second look.

That doesn’t mean that being a caucasian, middle/upperclass high-achieving student from the South won’t let you get it (there are plenty of those in our Johnson class), it just expands the pool of students to whom W&L is attractive.

Daugther heading to Lexington on Sunday for the Johnson interviews. She is excited.

Best of luck to your D, BBDark. My D is a first year Johnson and is looking forward to hosting her “prospie” for the competition.

Thanks. Perhaps they will meet. D will be staying in Gains in a suite with 3 1st years. We are looking forward to hearing how trip goes.

It is good to know that they don’t take legacy into account or else my D would never have gotten an interview:)

S also heading out to Johnson competition today. I hope all the students have a great time!
I think W&L does a great job with organizing this finalist weekend. I am keeping fingers for son (and best of luck to others)!

Daugther back from Johnson trip. She had a great time. Especially enjoyed sending the time in the dorms with current 1st year Johnsons. She siad there were some interesting folks at the reception. Great experience.
