hey for a computer science major, do you think i have time to do a sport such as badminton?
does joining the badminton team take a lot of time out of you?

You will have time.

Sorry that this isn’t badminton, but just my input on engineering major + general sport.
I’m a ChemE major, and I was on the Berkeley Ballroom dance team my freshman year. 6+ hours of practice per week, more when competitions were coming around, and competitions would basically knock out entire weekends. I had several Saturdays of 5am-10pm… I definitely didn’t feel like catching up on my studies the day afterward while I was physically exhausted.

It was super, super fun. But too much time commitment, so I sadly quit. I continue to be really, really bummed about it. =( But that’s what I had to give up to stay in engineering.

That being said, I received a 3.8+ GPA while I was on the team, and I know successful engineering and premed students who remain on the ballroom team. It all depends on you–how you manage your time, what you’re willing to give up (are you okay with maybe getting an A- rather than an A?), etc.

To be honest, my grades would probably be a little bit better if I didn’t have practice until 10pm the nights before a number of my midterms. I still managed a decent GPA, though.
