Joining CUEMS

Anyone gonna try for it? I am.

My only question is that it says you need to get your NYS EMT-B certification within a year of joining. It's already too late to sign up for the class this semester, but I believe it's an 2 semester course to get your certification. I wouldn't really want to shell out the money for it unless I knew I could do something with it either. Are there other ways to get that certification? How do most people do it?

To my knowledge, you can apply now and take the course next year. You can even take the EMT-B course in your home state over the summer and request reciprocity in NY. I know a few people who have done that.

Just a heads up, the application process is pretty competitive. Good luck though! :)

^ That’s what I may do is take it in Texas. It would cost me like 150 bucks to get a dupe in Texas, but only like 25 I think to get it duped here in NY. But we’ll see. Gotta get in first. Haha.

^ lol, Just show a lot of enthusiasm during the interview. Knowing a little bit about the squad beforehand is probably helpful as well. :)

Is it really that big of a time commitment? I saw that they expect at least 7 4-hour shifts each semester. Could it really be that bad? And if you get like a Friday or saturday night shift, is that a 6-10 or a 10-2 type shift?

I’d really like to do it, but I don’t plan on giving up every friday and saturday night either. I don’t mind it some, but not constantly. lol

I’m not sure about the whole Friday/Saturday night shift thing, but I know it’s not really a very big time commitment. The thing is, they only have so many spots to fill…and a whole lot of people apply. Many of them being pre-med, of course. :p

Do they frown on premeds? I am but I’m not doing it for the sole purpose padding my resume like some.

^No, I don’t think they do. Many of the members are premed.

Ok. I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t something I should avoid saying… Like those professors that roll their eyes at you when you say you’re premed.

lol, That hasn’t happened to me…at least not yet. :p
