Joining New Clubs in Junior Year

So I recently realized I like writing and would like to be a part of the newspaper and yearbook clubs. The thing is, I'm going to be in grade 11 next year, so would colleges think that I'm just trying to pad my application for joining so late?

It's never too late to get involved in something you enjoy.
Now--senior year--that's padding.

I joined a theatre organization junior year, a literary publication, too.

Two "fun" clubs--stock investment and comp sci--that I chose to omit from my application.

junior year is definitely not too late -- go for it! an admission counselor cannot really "think" or "have a hunch" that you're padding a resume and punish you for it, so even if you were, which i know you're not, i still dont think anything bad would come of it

Definitely Join!

I'm having the exact same problem as you Computerized - I'm thinking of joining my school's Amnesty International chapter and I'm gonna be a junior next year.

I'm just gonna join it to make myself personally happy. Honestly, from my point of view, if college is always on your mind throughout high school... you're not gonna have the most rewarding high school experience.

So, join the newspaper!

Do it - my application was pretty much based on all junior/senior year activities and it didn't hurt me (at least I don't think it did - I got into my top choices).

Now, im wondering whether joining a club in your junior would be bad compared to any clubs that youve done for four years.

I just thought of this since i plan to join a club (im a rising junior) where the membership is restricted to juniors and seniors and be involved, but how would that look compared to clubs that ive done for a full four years with less involvement?

Involvement is a seriously important component!

Agreed with kwu. Go for it. :)

My school is a 3 yr high school, and I moved into the district halfway through; IB, which is a community in and of its own, essentially, starts junior year. So a lot of my involvement is actually going to be in senior year.

You should difficult.
