I am going to be doing a d1 sport next year but I also would like to join a sorority. Is it possible to do both during freshman year?

It’s possible (depending on your practice schedule…sorority rush is in the fall) but might want to ask your coach if it’s advisable along with everything else new you’ll be experiencing as a freshman. Half of our students rush as sophomores so that’s an option also.

If you are doing a D1 sport, it is best to hold off since academics + D1 = more than a full-time job. So much to do at W&M that it is easy to become distracted from your main goal which is to excel in academics.

I was in a sorority at W&M and while I am still close friends with some of the people that were my sorority sisters, I am also close friends with people who are not. I just wanted to say that Greek life does not dominate the social scene at W&M like it does at other schools Yes, it is a part of it and I enjoyed it and would do it again- but you will not be limited in your opportunities by not rushing freshman year. When I went, rush was second semester and personally, I prefer that. I think it gives you a much better chance to get to know which one is a fit for you and also whether or not you find other things that you want to spend your free time on. But there are still plenty of spots for sophomores now so don’t stress about it.
