Joining Student Goverment: As a Transfer?

I was always told the Student Government will help you find friends plus, it looks good when you graduate. My question is as a Spring Transfer Sophomore, How do I get involved in this? Someone told me just show up at the meeting, but I don't just want to sit their, How do I get involved?

Thanks

Run for one of the lower level positions in the next open elections. Some of them may be uncontested.

StuGo is hard to get involved in midyear. Wait till the end of the year and follow gprime's advice. Also, every school's system is different--at my school, each club has a representative in StuGo as well. If the system works like this, you could try to find a club that doesn't already have one or with someone who really doesn't want to do it and represent them. Just join some clubs when you get there and that kind of thing, and if you still want to run at the end of the semester, go for it. Don't just go to the meeting--that would be awkward if it's on an elected only kind of basis.
