I just wanted some opinions on if It would be too late to join the school paper as a junior. I haven't been able to get into Journalism class for the first three years so I asked my AP English Language teacher who is the advisor for the paper if I could join the staff and do the club after school. I was just wondering whether this would look like piling on EC's to colleges but I really like writing and have always wanted to write for the paper and I now have a shot. I also intend on being a Viewpoints Editor for senior year if I am able to do it this year so I think that would make up for my late entry into being apart of the school newspaper. thoughts?

why would it be too late? of course you should do it, anything will help, plus you will continue it for senior year.

It's definitely not too late.
At my school you can't even join the paper until jr. year anyway.

^ That's how my school is too. I've been on it for two years now.

at my school you can join sophomore year but I didn't do it untill junior. It's fine, being on the school paper isn't just some club, it takes a lot of dedication. Try to get an editor position your senior year!

I joined as a Junior, then got out after a year due to creative differences. But I had a great experience. I'd say go for it, journalism is fast-paced anyway, it doesn't matter when you get involved :).

i was the Editor n' Chief of my school newspaper when I joined as a sophomore.

^I was the governor of my state when I came out of the womb.

Top that.

At my school, only juniors and seniors can join newspaper, and they do it as a class. I wanted it, but it didn't fit since I had something else that period. You're fine.

Ok. I was president of the US during conception....

and that's the truth.

My school doesn't allow you to join till Sophomore year, and even then, you have to start from the bottom. I've been an editor for three years (multiple editorships, though) as they made an exception for me.

Yeah, my school as well only lets join as a soph (they don't want freshmen clogging the place up :), and most join as juniors and seniors. In fact, last year, my friend and I were the only 2 sophmores to join, while about 8 juniors and 10 seniors joined!

I just joined my school paper, and I'm a senior. I couldn't join before because they used to meet after school, and I have an after school job. But they changed their meetings to 7:30 AM, so now it's all good. (:

I joined as a junior. Nothing wrong with it.

I'm a senior and I just joined this year. It doesn't matter. It's justified as long as you like to write and you learn something from it.
