Just starting the process…my daughter will be a junior.
She got a mailing for a joint information session.
are these worth going to?
It’s for 5 schools (Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Rice and UChicago). I’m guessing these are the schools the company always does?
Anyway, the session is about 20 minutes from us so wouldn’t be hard to attend. She’s interested in a few of these schools.
Just wondering what others think?
Thanks!
We attended one of these sorts of sessions for a different grouping of schools, and I was surprised at how helpful it was. I would go.
My D and I attended exactly the group you are mentioning. I think it’s worth it. More importantly, she did too. It changed her list kind of last minute though which was a little aggravating. They do a good job but it’s a little superficial- a quick overview. It does capture the essence of each school. All of us thought that the woman from Rice was the best though. She sold her school really well.
My D and I attended a similar session (Harvard, duke, Stanford, Georgetown, u of pen) and we were happy we attended. Good overview of each and they spoke about their application requirements in more detail.
My daughter will be a junior. Do you think it’s too early?
I know of like 3 different joint sessions like that that came to my area. The one you spoke of, the one form post #3, and then Northwestern, Berkeley, Dartmouth, Vanderbilt, Stanford (if I remember correctly, I did attend the latter 2 sessions)
Yeah it’s only a bit of info from each one but you can get a good picture of the school. Plus you can talk to the rep after all the presentations if you have any specific questions.
I wouldn’t say it’s too early, if she’s a junior. Junior year is a good time to start feeling out colleges to apply to.
Junior is a good year to start the research process.
My d is also a junior and I think it is a good time to start. We tried to visit a few schools over the summer wherever we traveled locally so that she could start thinking about the type of environment she likes (urban, rural, etc.). Good luck!
