Joint Major Program for Math and Comp Sci @ NYU

Hi, everybody. This is my first post here. I read a lot of these forum posts when applying, and I figured I come here now that I need more specific help.

I got into most of my schools, but I’ve narrowed my choice down to Georgia Tech and NYU.

Both are offering me enough money to attend, so that’s a non-issue.

I’m planning on dual-majoring in Math and Computer Science at either school. That being said, NYU is #10 in Math (#1 in Applied Math) and #29 in Computer Science, according to NYU’s Grad School rating on U.S. News. Georgia Tech is #9 in Computer Science, but #28 in Math. They’re almost exact opposites in terms of ranking.

I know these are the Grad School rankings, but I assume it has some correlation to the prestige of the undergrad programs.

Which should I favor? Should I go to the school that would provide an incredibly strong Math background with a weaker Computer Science program, or to the school with an incredible Computer Science program but a weaker Math program.

Some other info:
I’m currently studying for exam P (Actuary Exams).
I really don’t have a preference. I really enjoyed BC Calc and APCS this year.
I wouldn’t mind either a job in finances, using a Comp Sci background to create programs that model things, or a job as a Programmer, using Math as a strong background to create better programs.

Thanks for any and all insight and advice!
