I'd really like to get involved in my school's student government but here it's a class. It's a "joke" class: there's no curriculum, there are no tests. I'd guess it's just a class where you socialize the whole time except for certain days when you plan out school events such as fundraisers and dances. While there is an interesting AP class that I'd much rather take, I've always wanted to have student government as an extracurricular activity and get involved in it. It could also be a break from the rigorous courseload I'm planning on handling. But also I don't want colleges to look down upon me for taking a "joke" class because I'm guessing they'd consider it as such.

So basically, I have to decide between these two: An AP class, or a "joke class"?
Keep in mind, this will be my junior year.

How would colleges know it’s a joke class? If it shows up as “Student Government” or something similar it would just look like something that you’re interested in.

Just my take on it, anyway.

agreed with SAM^, hehe.
man, i WISH we had a joke class :/

And even if it was a joke class, it probably won’t matter on the overall picture…it’s not as if you’re taking 100% joke classes.

Unless you have a webcam that’s broadcasting your socialization and lack of actual work straight to the monitors of overzealous adcoms…just take it if you like it.

ha lmao all my optional classes r jks
if u show up automatic A

Lmao! Honors Spanish! I leave class for like a half hour with a horrible excuse…draw randomly on the whiteboard…talk the entire time…or do homework for other classes. I’ll bring my entire lunch into class sometimes, through surprise parties for the teacher’s 1/2 or 3/4 birthday, or just leave class again and go to lunch or something. The teacher usually just laughs and doesn’t care. Oh, and I have a 99 average :)

^^^ OMG, that’s like my French class. I’m now teaching myself most things months before my teacher ever gets around to it because the class is so stupid. I wanted to get out of it senior year and take French at a local uni since I know some people who did that, but it’s really, really difficult to get out of it. I’m just afraid I’ll fail the AP because Madame royally sucks as a teacher.

^Hahaha we’re requesting her as a teacher for next year :)

I usually don’t act obnoxious, but its such a relief from the stress of school that I can’t help myself. You can get away with almost ANYTHING in that class. I’ve seen people dance on the desks mid-class and draw giant inappropriate parts on the whiteboard. Sometimes, we’ll shout really loud “This class is SO BORING!” Hahaha! Or come to class 15 minutes late, no pass, with like a few bagels in hand bought in the cafe. Its a school rule that you can’t have food in the classroom, so she tells us to put our backpacks on the desks to hide the food!
