Jordan vs Scotland?

Hi all. I am going to study abroad for a semester next near and I hope to later on pursue some sort of career in international business. I am an anthropology major.

My top study abroad choices are very different from each other. On one hand, I'd like to go to Edinburgh, Scotland. It is a world renowned university, has a good anthropology program, and I've heard that it is an amazing city to live in as a student.

On the other hand, Amman, Jordan presents a valuable opportunity for me to learn/constantly practice Arabic and partake in homestays. I guess my question is what do you think is more valuable for a future career/ will look better to future employers? A semester at a rigorous university like Edinburgh or a semester of learning Arabic and hands-on experience in the Middle East?

Thanks!

It really depends what you want to do. Do you want to work at an NGO in Jordan? If not go to Edinborough. As someone that worked in a foreign country before returning to school for a masters and had to interview my replacements a semester of Arabic will mean nothing to employers. I had kids similar to you apply citing a semester of study in the country and language and it didn’t help them in anyway. It in fact hurt them because the position demanded complete fluency in the language. Edinburough its a BEAUTIFUL city, full of lovely people. The Scots are some of the kindest and warmest people I’ve ever met. UofE is a fantastic university. Go there.
