Jornalism School

Looking for a liberal and urban college with a strong journalism program. I have a 3.9 weighted 3.3 unweighted GPA. A 2100 SAT score and a crap ton of extra curriculars and community service including class president. Any feasable options for me would be appreciated. Location other than the US and urban is unimportant and do not worry about tuition.

-Boston University
-Emerson College
-Gonzaga University
-Loyola University Chicago
-Marquette University
-Temple University
-University of Denver

If urban is unimportant, then here are some of the top j-schools, in addition to the ones already mentioned:

NYU, Mizzou, Northwestern, Oregon, USC, Arizona State, University of Miami, University of Indiana, UNC, George Washington University. Those are just some. Northwestern, Mizzou, and UNC are usually on the top of “best of” lists, but there are a lot of great journalism schools. @ScaredNJDad1 whose ranking is that? I’ve never seen UGA at the top of a J ranking.

It’s based on a poll of several hundred working journalists. It is pretty consistent with others I have seen. I first saw the poll on LinkedIn.

@ScaredNJDad1 There’s really not one “top” j-school. There aren’t any consistent rankings, just some polls done by working journalists. More often I see Mizzou or Northwestern at the top. But, again, there really aren’t any solid rankings, just general good schools.

It seems to me that the ranking of J-Schools depends on whom you are asking and what that audience thinks is important. Is it broadcasting, writing, producing etc. So you might want to research further as to what it is in journalism you want to do. Do you want to be an investigative reporter for the Washington Post? Do you want to be an anchor on a morning show? Do you want to be an editor for a magazine? Rankings will change based on what you want to do.
