How is the journalism school? I really like ND bc of the first year of studies as I am undecided at this point. But journalism is one of the options I'm considering most. Also, is it possible to have a dual business and journalism degree?

I'm not sure about its reputation (though it IS notre dame, you can pretty much assume none of the departments can afford to be less than average if not less than above average) but my roommate (we're freshmen) has decided to double major in journalism and business so it;s definitely possible.

Not as good as the Big Three (Northwestern, Syracuse, Missouri), but still pretty good.

Oh, really? That makes me really happy because I checked the website after I posted this and journalism wasn't listed in the majors so I thought ND didn't have a journalism major at all.

Apparently it's only a minor?

That's what I thought also...it's like Journalism, Ethics, and Democracy.
Here's a list of all majors/minors:
Undergraduate Majors, Minors, Supplemental Majors // Undergraduate Studies // Majors, Programs, and Departments // College of Arts and Letters // University of Notre Dame

Here's the description of the Journalism Ethics and Democracy Minor:
Department of American Studies // University of Notre Dame

I think having a minor in journalism is fine for becoming a journalist b/c you get the training you need while still getting a broad liberal arts curriculum that makes you more knowledgeable. You also can major in an area that might be helpful for journalism (english,, political science, etc). All of this combined with hands on experience working for the student paper, other school publications, and internships will prepare you to be a competetive journalist.

Thanks for the info!

My roommate is also majoring in business and is in the journalism, ethics, and democracy program, so its definitely possible.
