Journalism Colleges

What are some good journalism schools that I should be looking at if these are my stats..

Freshman GPA: 3.9
Sophomore GPA: 3.7
Junior GPA: 3.9

ACTs: 25 (first time.. will retake.. plan on 26-27)
SATs: 1750 (first time.. new scores come in four days)

ECs: I have tons but here are the most important ones..
-Varsity Lacrosse for three years (started every year)/ received "Coaches Award" sophomore year
-Freshman year Basketball/ received "Most Improved" award
-Founded an Operation Smile club and raised $1,000 last year
-This summer, I will be interning with the Orlando Sentinel newspaper for 5 weeks for the High School Sports Reporting Institute for 2007
-100+ hours of community service
-NHS, Quill & Scroll Honors Society, and EHS

Schools:
Freshman-Sophomore Year--> attended Redwood High, California
Junior- Senior Year--> will attend Winter Park High, Florida

I moved from California to Florida in August 2006.

I am an aspiring journalist and would love to attend a great journalism school. Any ideas on schools to consider? I'd love to go back to California to attend a UC school but I know it's very difficult now that I come out of state.

PLEASE HELP!! Thanks!!

I'd say that Northwestern and the University of Missouri-Columbia are the best ones.

I think that Northwestern would be a reach for you, but you should still check the school out. Definitely look into the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Very slim shot at both of them.

berkeley has journalism, i think it's a good program but idk. i'm not sure about the other uc's.

as i understand it, the university of florida has a good journalism program too.

No, she has a definite shot at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Because of the 25 ACT score, she would be accepted into the pre-journalism program and by sophomore year, she could enter the actual Journalism school.

I meant she wouldnt get direct. I didnt know they had a pre-j program.

^ it's all good :>)

thanks for the help!

What other colleges are there that would fit my stats? Any in California.. or on the west coast?

received my SAT scores and surprise surprise it was the exact same score :( but I am going to prep a lot for the ACTs this summer

any more help?

Well u have many options. Since ur in Florida ill also suggest schools in that state in case u wanna stay in Florida.

California Schools: for many i cant really give u chances unless ur sure ur a Cali Resident. if u are then ur chances are good if not its gonna be tought ot get into a UC school.
- USC (residency status wont matter): raise ur ACT's and u have a shot.
- UCSB, UCLA, UCSD, UCI, UCD are all possibilities if ur a Cali resident. otherwise its gonna be tough.

Florida:
- UF: 65% chance of getting in
- FSU: 80% chance of getting in
- UMiami: 65% chance of getting in. if ur not a Florida resident then it will be easier to get in here than UF. if u are they should be about the same. UF might be a tad bit harder though cause its public.

Other options:
- Indiana: safety
- Missouri: safety
- South Carolina: safety
- UGA: match

Not for j-school; Indiana, Mizzou, UGA and SoCar all have very good or top j-schools.

Thanks For The Help!

FSU does not have a Journalism program. UF does. FSU does have a very nice College of Communication, however.

The SAT/ACT scores are the weakest part. The grades look good. Take plenty of APs. An 80% chance is very optimistic with the current scores.

Thank you! I don't know how the Florida college idea started here, but I am only interested in applying to UF.. otherwise I want to get out of Florida. Are there are good journalism schools in California?

I know UCLA doesn't have a journalism program. and I think Berkeley's program is grad school. USC has a very good program, I'd apply there for sure. And if you change your mind about Florida, it seems UMiami has a solid program as well, i've heard good things. Are you primarily interested in Cali or will you apply to schools in other states, perhaps on the East Coast? If so, that widens your options.

I am primarily interested in California.. or other parts of the western coast as well. Thanks!

bump... :)
thanks!

my last bump..
