Anyone know much about the Jounalism or Communications programs. I see that students start with a communications Interest and after four courses the top 100 students get into the communications program. Does anyone know how competitive this is?

S is a freshman in Communications Interest. From what he’s been able to glean so far, a B+ average in those four required courses will probably get you into the major, but of course the GPA will vary by year.

Journalism is a minor, and you generally take the first course (JOUR 301) the fall of your sophomore year. You must get a B or better in that course to continue in the minor. You can read more about it here: [Department of English - Journalism_Home](http://www.english.udel.edu/content/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=434&Itemid=776)

So far, S is really enjoying the Comm courses. One of the required fall courses was a large lecture, and yet he got to know the professor, who was very helpful and accessible and, according to S, an excellent teacher.

Another option…

My DD (UD freshman) is now an English major with a concentration in Professional Writing (that’s one of the choices for concentration in the English major). She is considering adding the journalism minor (has another non-related minor as well). She had considered the communications major but, because of the admittance process into the major, she decided to go this other route.
