Hello everyone. I am a graduate of SUNY Geneseo with a BA in Communication, and I am pursuing graduate schools in journalism. I'm doing this partly because of the obvious educational benefits, and partly because I might as well do something productive during this very poor job market.

My question is, I want to find out the reputations of the journalism programs of some colleges I have looked into. Some of the big, well-known publications out there post the top schools in the country, but I don't think I exactly have the GPA to get into a Columbia or Berkley. I'll apply to a few of these schools, but I don't want my safety schools to be complete junk either. My GPA is 2.97, but my major GPA and my GPA in my last two years is much better. Plus, I have a lot of journalism experience already (taking the GRE Feb. 5). What kind of second-tier grad schools should I look into? There's a bunch I have marked off, but I really don't know anything about them. Most sites just give stats and percentages, but it's tough to find some real dirt on a school. Here's an example of some schools I've marked down:

American U., Cal. State - Fullerton, Cal. State - Northridge, U. of Illinois - Chicago, Marshall U., U. of Maryland, U. of Memphis, U. of Miami, Michigan S. U., U. of Missouri - Columbia, Northeastern, Penn. State, Regent U., Roosevelt U., U. of South Carolina, Temple U., and W. Virgina U.

The reason I post these is because I already know about the Syracuses and Northwesterns. I want some way of getting subjective opinions, or even just a broad reputation, on some of the schools I don't know anything about. Any suggestions?

P.S. I work a full time job and so won't have very much time to go road-tripping to all these places.
