Journalism or Film or Communications

I'm about to enter my senior year of high school and have started narrowing down my college search. I work at my school's radio station, and am interested in working in the media. I'm also considering film or journalism. My parents keep telling me that communications covers all of that but I'm not sure. Should I go with journalism or film? Also if I can't decide, should I just look for a school with a good communications department? Thanks for any help.

Often times, a communications major requires you to focus on a concentration within the field of communications. For example--A communications major with concentration in journalism; a communications major with a concentration in radio, film, and tv; a communications major with a concentration in sports communication; a communications major with a concentration in adverising, etc. Different colleges offer different concentrations within the communications major. Check out a few specific college websites and read up on their communications major. Go to the websites of Syracuse University, Marist, Ithaca, and SUNY Oswego. These are just a few college sites to get you started on your research.

Also check out University of Missouri and Northwestern for journalism. (Among the best in the country.)

I would go with Journalism because it seems to be the most marketable of these majors, however communications is pretty similar. Film will probably give you the least opportunity, so I would rule that one out personally.

As nysmile said, journalism and communications may overlap at your school and you could double major or major/minor in both of them as well.

do you think you might have the stats for a LAC?

Northwestern is good for all 3. :)

University of Maryland- College Park has an excellent journalism program. It's one of the best in the country and is ranked just as high in that field as Northwestern and Syracuse, which are other excellent universities to look at for journalism programs. btw Boston College also has an up and coming communications department which is supposed to be top notch.
