Hello
I was wondering if somenone could help me decide whether to major in journalism or in public relations. I am not from US , I've just decided to apply for an American college and I'm really confused, because I hardly know anything about how things work there.I was thinking about journalism because I really like writing, but I've heard it doesn't offer you that many career opportunities as having majored in public relations would.
I was also wondering if , as an international student,I could start both foreign languages and journalism(IF I finally pick journalism) at the same time.
Any advice would help a lot. thank you in advance.

anyone? no?
if you don't know, could you at least write sth, anything? "o replies " is pathetic
thank you for the few views, though :)

At many schools, you do not choose your major until the end of your sophomore year. This way, you can figure out what you really want to do. I would suggest not declaring a major right away, take some classes that interest you, and go from there.

Super:

If you are looking for a career in either, I personally wouldn't major in either. Ask to see the school's placement rate.

For journalism, I would recommend a very strong liberal arts foundation. English, History, Political Science. Whatever you find attractive.

I am sure that others would disagree, but the core skill for journalism is writing. Look at the backgrounds of the people that write for the New York Times, Washington Post, etc.

I don't know about public relations, but I would imagine that the same thing is true. Talk to someone doing it.

thank you, that's great advice. I have a lot of time to decide indeed.I like hearing what people think.
