<p>D received notification accepted to UM and offered Mark Twain scholarship for out-of-state student. Applied and was direct admit to Honors. No notice of acceptance to Journalism school, Journalism Scholar or Walter Williams Scholar. Requirements are confusing on website and some are contradictory. ACT 31, SAT 710 / 650, GPA 3.9 but not top 10%. When/how do they notify you direct admission to J school, J scholar & does she have a shot at Walter Williams Scholar? There doesn't appear to be applications for these items or are we missing something?</p>

<p>It’ll say in her acceptance letter if she was a direct admit to the school. The requirements are pretty straightforward:</p>

<p>"A freshman applicant will be directly admitted to the School of Journalism if he or she meets standard MU admissions requirements and any one of the following three criteria:</p>

<p>Ranks in the top 10 percent of his or her high school class.
Scores 29 or higher on the ACT Composite.
Scores 1290 or higher on the math-verbal portions of the SAT. Note: The University of Missouri does not use the relatively new SAT or ACT essay examinations in its admissions process.

<p>Since she has a 31 on the ACT she qualifies to be a direct admit.</p>

<p>For Walter Williams: “To win acceptance into the exclusive circle of top Walter Williams Scholars, incoming freshmen must earn an ACT composite score of 33 or higher (1440 or higher on the SAT). They also must rank in the top 20 percent of the high school class (if the school ranks) or must have maintained a high school GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale. Admission is by invitation only.”</p>

<p>For Journalism Scholars, anyone who is a direct admit to the honors college is automatically accepted for Journalism Scholars. <a href=“Walter Williams Scholars – Missouri School of Journalism”>http://journalism.missouri.edu/programs/undergraduate/starting-your-program/journalism-scholars-and-walter-williams-scholars/&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

<p>You’re correct that there isn’t any application; it’s all direct/automatic admittance. So, to be clear, based on her stats, she qualifies as a direct admit and Journalism Scholars, but not Walter Williams.</p>
