Hi,
I am a prospective undergrad looking to major in journalism. On the WashU website, there is a communication/journalism major listed under the undergrad programs, yet the major is not available on the application. I e-mailed the university last night, and got back an e-mail saying how most journalism undergrad majors just put down english as their major. I was wondering if anyone majoring in undergrad journalism can add some insight?
Thanks

As far as I know, there is no actual journalism/communications major. I think anyone at WU who is intetested in journalism majors in English and works for StudLife(the student run newspaper that is completely independant and incorporated).

Greetings...I'm part of StudLife here at WashU. There is no communications or journalism program in the University's undergraduate divisions, as Jeffwun said. There is one course in journalism taught on variable basis, though. University College, WashU's evening school primarily for adults wishing to obtain a college degree, offers a such major and many courses in the field, but these do not count towards graduation requirements if you are enrolled as an undergraduate at WashU.

People here interested in journalism usually write for Student Life and they often major in English or some related field. If you go to http://www.studlife.com, you can contact a news editor; they may be able to provide you with more information on that.

thank you very much!

I think this kind of relates to the topic---

Does WashU have a debate team?

haha, I'm totally not at all involved with it (public speaking and debating is not my strong point lol)
but here's the website
http://sugroups.wustl.edu/~debate/

The debate team at WashU is excellent; we've been ranked in the top 5 teams in the nation all year, and we even had #1 for a while. It's very difficult to make the team though. I think only two freshmen made it out of the many who tried out for the team.

I think you're thinking of mock trial... As far as I know, the debate team is open to anyone who wants to join, regardless of experience, and mock trial is the more selective (and admittedly more successful) program.

Regardless, yes, WashU has a debate team, but they do parli instead of policy.

I hear WashU is very involved in the Roosevelt Institution.
