I applied for Communication & Culture as a major in the College of A+S but am lately realizing I want to switch into the Business School (Marketing) and possibly even Journalism, but I've got some questions regarding the Journalism school.

Before I had no idea there was THAT strong a link between Journalism and Advertising (which I'm hoping to focus more on since they don't offer that as a major at IU)...but I went to the IU website and looked at the courses offered and there were some Advertising-geared courses so I suppose it's upto you to choose what path you want to take?

So lately I've been thinking I could consider possibly doing a double major in Journalism and Marketing.

Does anybody else know people who have done that? Can anyone tell me anything about the Journalism school overall? Since they only have ONE major - Journalism, can you make what you want of it? Like would I be able to focus more on the advertising aspects? Or would I be better off with just Marketing or maybe Marketing and Communication & Culture? Basically, what is the best path for someone interested in Advertising to take at IU? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have the answer to your question, but this might give you some info and help you figure out who to contact to get the answer:

In particular, check out pages 14 to 28 of the above which lists every advertising course offered in every department at IU-Bloomington and gives detailed descriptions of the courses.

OMG, you're amazing.
Thank you soooo much. That pretty much answered every question I ever had and will be an amazing tool for me if I go to IU!

Thanks for the kudos--you're welcome

You know, I find out something new and amazing about this university everyday.

For example, while trying to find out about this stuff, I also discovered that Indiana University was ranked by USNW as the fourth best school for Business Law in the United States. (I think they mean through the business school, not the law school, but I'm still checking on this). Turns out that Marty McCrory, who teaches law in the Kelley Business School, won the award as the best junior faculty law professor in the country (only given to one individual each year) back in 2000.

I also found out that the Student Union--which is the largest one in the US--was modeled after Oxford in England.

I also found out that the Little 500 bicycle race was ranked as the #1 top campus-sponsored competition opened to all students at any school in the country.

I found out that the Music Department is the only one in the country to place 3 students among the finalists at the Metropolitan Opera competition in NYC over the past 5 years.

And on.. and on..and on..
