journalism

How strong is the journalism program at Northeastern. What co ops are available?

I'm a journalism major. You can co-op at the Boston Globe, the Herald, the Patriot Ledger, and many smaller papers. I think the program is more geared towards print journalism majors than TV. (For example, the student newspaper is much much bigger than student radio or television). I think most of the instructors are great, and have a lot of hands-on experience.

Is their opportunities to do sports journalism at those papers?

I'm assuming you mean

are there opportunities...

Ha yeah I'm on my phone it changes grammer and messes it up all the time

Yeah, the Globe (if I'm remembering right) has positions at each of their major desks, including sports. I know the Patriot Ledger has sports positions. I think a few others do as well, but I don't know for sure since that's never really been my interest. What kind of sports do you want to cover?

Yeah I don't know yet. I'm not sure if I want to write or do something visual or involving radio but I want it to relate to sports.

Are there any co-ops at magazines, or publications that focus on feature stories? I'm on my HS student paper right now and have interned at a local paper before, but I don't really like the hectic, deadline-crazy atmosphere...even though I'm pushing my interest in print journalism as an applicant, I think a monthly magazine or something like that would be more my thing.

I think there are...but it might be less likely to be paid. Newspapers, I think, usually pay, but magazines and radio and TV usually don't.

Hmm...that's disappointing that the pay would be less. Thanks for the input!
