Journalism

I'm going into journalism to get into public relations, and I was wondering how is Cornell's journalism program? Thanks for the help!

i didnt think cornell had a “journalism” program…

that being said most people here who do go into journalism are writers for a publication on campus and/or very active on campus…

Thanks. Columbia is much better for journalism.

There is a communications major in CALS, you’d have to check for details to see if it meets your needs.

Formal academics aside though, The campus newspaper has long been a stepping stone for people pursuing careers in related areas.

From Wikepedia:

" The Sun claims at least six Pulitzer Prize winners and boasts a number of other prominent alumni. They include:

David Folkenflik, Editor-in-Chief (1990-91), reporter for NPR
Frank E. Gannett, founder of the Gannett Company; coincidentally, Gannett now owns and operates The Ithaca Journal
Marc Lacey, Mexico City correspondent, The New York Times
Carl P. Leubsdorf, The Dallas Morning News columnist
Oscar Mayer, Business Manager (1933-1934), grandson of the founder of the Oscar Mayer meat production company responsible for that company’s substantial growth
Dick Schaap, Editor-in-Chief (1954-1955), noted sports writer and broadcaster
Jeremy Schaap, Sports Editor (1990-1991), ESPN contributor and son of Dick Schaap
Kurt Vonnegut, Associate Editor (1942-1943), novelist and satirist
E. B. White, Editor-in-Chief (1920-1921), columnist and novelist "

I do recall that Columbia has a highly regarded journalism program at the graduate level, however their journalism school is a graduate program only, IIRC. For undergrad, interested parties might be wise to check on what offerings they provide to undergraduates there, if any.

you may want to look at northwestern for journalism. it is a fairly similar school to cornell and it has a great j school

Thanks so much, you guys!

Columbia also does not have journalism at an undergraduate level, none of the Ivy’s do. Yale has this program: [Yale Journalism Initiative | Special Programs | Yale College | Yale College Programs of Study](<a href=“Yale College”>Yale College)

But it is very hard to get into and is not a major. I would suggest NYU, Northwestern, USC, UNC- Chapel Hill, Mizzou, Syracuse and Indiana for journalism.
