Journalist with a question

Hi there,

I'm working on an article about choosing a college and am wondering if you or anyone you know is basing his/her decision on the quality of the university's gym. I'm grateful for any info you can share. Send me an email

Thanks for your help,
Marisa

I believe you've come to the wrong place because everyone here bases their decision off of hearsay and USNWR rankings.

lol, amen to that, shizz :)

UT-Austin's gym seems to win some over! It's AMAZING!!!!

I'm going to give this innocent question a serious answer:

Uh, no. I don't think the gym matters.

But it has been very interesting -- bordering upon amusing -- to see how "the gym" has been a major stop on almost every campus visit we've made. (I'm assuming here that you mean the school's workout facilities, not the big arena where the basketball or hockey teams play). I think this is because, in most cases, students give the campus tours, and they all know where the gym is, whether they actually go there regularly or not.
One guy made a big deal out of his school gym's rock-climbing wall. I mean, really. The same kid got to the library, gave it a half-hearted wave, and said, "And here's the library. They have English majors in there who will rewrite your papers for you if you pay them." (true story)
