I am a student at OSU and was wondering what would give me the better chance to get an interview, applying from OSU or applying via referral from a manager there?

Aren’t you that jackass with a 3.2? Just give up.

aren’t you that jackass that has no life so he spends his time ■■■■■■■■ on college forums? Just give up.

Yes, I spend all my time ■■■■■■■■ college forums. That’s why my GPA is a 3.2 from OSU.

really? that’s my GPA too. Cool man ;)

Oh look, it’s uxley again. Funny how the tables have turned this time. I now have 2 internships at Barclays and another bank. You were the guy that asked ME to give up, right? Unfortunately for you, you need 1 or 2 of 2 things to break into this line of work. 1-Connections and/or 2-A hell of a good alma matter to shine on your transcript. You seem to have neither. And dont get your hopes up with that manager referral because they usually suck and they’re mainstream now. I am, however, feeling a bit kind today so im going to give you my best piece of advice… Go to Harvard.

Good day.

LOL…

Dude id say go apply through the referral with the managar if ur in OSU. If u were in Harvard then def through the schoool :P

I can’t really comment on the op but I can comment about you. I’m not picking a fight but maybe you should stop acting like hot sh *t when your internships are in no way related to your abilities but rather to your parents well known connections. I’m just saying don’t act superior to others and justify it with things that you didn’t get on your own merit.

@ Plasma99,

Let me make 2 points very clear: 1- uxley chose to vilify me several times on this very same board. I was only getting him back. 2- In the world of Banking, Real Estate, Investment Banking etc. connections are JUST AS important as college degrees. Trust me. Im only 18, my friend, so I guess a college degree is kind of hard to get just a month and a half after I graduated from high school. So til then, I’ll work with what I have. And dont talk about something if you dont know anything about me (Im not trying to pick a fight either. Just for future reference.)

I wasn’t talking to you without prior information. I have seen your posts over the last few months and I know that you go to school outside of the US, are not good at math/do not like it and you wish to break into IB. I also pretty sure that your stats were subpar for IB and for transferring into top US undergrad business schools and when people told you this you refused to believe it and said that you could get into IB if you wanted to.

I agree with you that connections are very important but in all honesty(if I remember your stats correctly) it is doubtful you would break into IB without the help of your parents. You say that you will work with what you have as if you have no advantages over the rest of us. A high school graduate who gets an internship at a major bank clearly did not get it on his own merit(have fun with the internship but it just seems like you go around gloating about it as if it was all on your own).

I never said it was all my own. Since you read my older posts, I thought you’d NOTICE that I’ve actually had to apply to these internships with scores, essays, and recs. I got amazing recs from my business and economics teachers and was told that I could have had better scores but that many interns had similar stats (thats where connections come in). I know for a fact that you read my older posts after I commented on your post (dont take me for an idiot or a fool for that matter). I think its safe to say that my high school career is more than over and that I can look forward to something new in college. Internships at the world’s top banks seem like the perfect way to start. Think before you answer, my friend. You may have your stats, but Im just about to start college so dont assume you or any other person is better. I happen to have my own ways of getting what I want. They are legal and well-planned. Step into the real world… It’s about time SATs stop mattering.

And you misunderstood me… I didnt say “I could get in if I wanted to”. I said I could do it if I tried harder. I showed interest, gotten some good recs and some help from my parents and I guess im on the right track… I think you should stop talking now, this conversation is not productive at all. You’re wasting your time… and mine.

You are right it’s is a waste of time arguing but for the record I really didn’t read any of your old posts. I actually remember them because there was a pretty heated argument in the thread going on.

Im sorry things got out of hand. I did not mean to lash out at you. I just wanted to get my point across. The fact of the matter is: uxley started going crazy/racist on my older post and I just found this post and decided to get back at him. About internships: They’re not all based on connections. I still had to apply. They seemed to be impressed with my knowledge and didnt seem to care about my non-perfect SAT scores etc. It is true that connections help, but you also must have something to offer. So please dont undermine my efforts. Thank you. And again, im sorry for the misunderstanding. Good day.

What about JT Marlin?

^haha. Good one. What movie was that? Boiler Room, I think.

Yup, whatever the OP deserved it I’m sure.
