Internships – Marist really encourages/pushes internships especially in your junior and senior years… in fact in order to get credit you have to be a junior or senior. They require 60 credits, a minimum 2.5 or higher GPA and that you take a prerequisite course… this is definitely set for Communication & Business majors, for others the requirements may vary. (I’m commenting on this because as a communications major I applied for and was accepted for an internship in my hometown this summer, between my freshman and junior year – but because I’m still a freshman I can’t get ANY credit for it! Still worth the experience but would be nice to have some type of exception.)

Marist holds career fairs twice a year (winter/spring) where many companies come looking for interns, the career office also is also constantly sending out e-mail notices of internships, I receive at least 1-3 per week – so they have very good connections and if you show interest you are almost guaranteed to find a internship to suit you!

i got accepted as a transfer. i’ve been told i’ll be living in Residence Inn by Marriott five miles south of campus. Do you know anyone who lived there? Is it at all a detriment? I’d much rather have a dorm on campus my first year at the school

Also what are the parties like at Marist? I’ve heard its mostly bars, is this true/can you get in with a fake id?

Hi… Yes, I knew a kid who was a transfer last year and mentioned that he lived in the Residence Inn… it was just casual but didn’t sound too bad. The worst part of it is if you don’t have a car - so make sure you either have transportation or befriend others at the Residence Inn (and be nice and offer rides if there is someone who doesn’t have a car). Campus housing is pretty tight but it’s still unfortunate that transfers of all need to live off campus - but those who have transferred seem to do just fine and still get plenty involved!

Parties - yes most parties are at bars/clubs. I don’t go out to clubs/bars myself, but yes you usually can get in with a fake ID just be careful. People also like to drink and have pre-going out parties, and there occasionally are parties in the upperclassmen dorms but the majority of activity is bars/clubs.

& congrats on being accepted!!

I am a junior in high school and recently became interested in marist. I want to major in psychology with the 5 year masters program, how is the psych program?

Also, I know you are not an admissions counselor, but I wanted to know what the average student should have to be accepted to marist?

also, how are freshman dorms and is the campus lively?
Thank you!

My son will be starting Fall 2011. He attended small catholic grammar school & high school. He is not much on meeting new people yet is very athletic. Any thoughts on how I can get him involved before just dropping him off in August ? Thanks : )

I’m going to Marist in the fall and I can’t wait! It makes me happy to see that most of the current students seem to love it there.

Hey, I’m a breakdancer and bboying is a huge part of my life…are there any breakdancers at Marist? How easy is it to start a club at Marist like a breakdancing club, and how would you start one? Do you think anyone would join? Thanks!

If there’s anybody here or that you know at Marist that would be interested in a breakdancing club, please let me know!
