You're applying to Brooks! I applied there last year and got waitlisted. I got waitlisted at Andover too :( My SSAt was 92%. Good Luck.

As one of the veterans, I cam here as an 8th grader, and I still think it's crazy. I do love rifling feathers! :D

Thanks for the wish of luck - I'll probably need it. I don't know my SSAT scores yet but should get them in the next few weeks. Just took them on the 12th!

me too...but they waitlisted you when you got 92%????????? oh my gosh, i am BUMMED. i KNOW i'm around top eighties at the MOST....oh my god...

I don't think I'll even end up in the 80's! The whole secondary school search was much more an adventure than I anticipated. So much to consider...

i know...mann....actually, i exaggerated. from my calculation, i got at least 40% of my verbal section wrong...yup. that'll end me up around fifty percentiles....NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
i really want to go to exeter or andover...not because of their fame or anything, but i don't know, they seem RIGHT. ooh mann.

they say scores aren't everything (which is a good thing). You just took the SSAT too, right? Scores aren't being released until the 25th!

let's see.. in the 8th grade i dont think many sites were around.

it was 'back in the day'

omgosh i didn't know that there were this many 8th graders here :

when i was in 8th grade, i was into experiencing with boyfriends, hair, fashion (i thought i was the fashion shiz) and make up..
oh and I wanted the school's 'most social' cup.

you guys are crazy to be on this site. and smart. yes.. if i had known about thsi site in 8th grade, i would have about 1000 hrs of community service by now

I'm applying to Exeter, Andover, and Choate.
I have realtives at Exeter, and friends at Andover and Choate so this boarding school expereince isn't exactly 'new' to me.
I don't know what I got on the SSAT (and frankly I don't think they put it that much into consideration). If I score high, great. If I score low, I don't think they'll reject me for it. (GPA is somewhere in the A range, URM paying full tuition, 95th percentile on the IOWAs with a decent number of extracurriculars)

I have no idea how I did on the SSATs. Math probably good, reading okay and more than likely, sucky on verbal!

i agree that SSAT isnt the most important part of an application, didnt me to scare u guys! I think i was waitlisted because
A. I had many grades in the B range (about 6 of them) in 7th grade.
B. I requested financial aid
C. I;m local, but applied as a boarder, so not too much for geographic diversity

Dont worry! EVEn if u dont get in, i love my high school, its a private/parochial day school....and im still challenged because of honors classes. good luckkk!

I'll probably get waitlisted as well seeing my grades are A/B (1/2 each)/I'm requesting financial aid and from RI applying as a boarder. I hope I am accepted but it won't be the end of the world if I don't. I understand the sibling, alum, money issues that obviously hinder my chances and I realize it isn't about how I'd do, but more about the politiical aspects of acceptance that weigh in their decision making process.

ohhh i'll probably applying for financial aid, too...

as for friends and family thing, my family didn't even hear about andover or exeter until i looked it up...-_-ll
for 7th grade it's mostly As and Bs, and i think i had a few Cs in 6th grade...

busted, huh?

chopper:
ditto ditto. i think i did good in math, okay in reading, and sucky in verbal. that's why i'm taking ISEE tommorow. wish me luck!

recapafterused : what do yolu mean URM paying full tuition?

Good luck wantascholarship! I'm not retaking mine - whatever I get, I'm stuck with. We'll see soon enough how good or bad they are.

schoarship: I'm black and if I get accepted I'll be paying the 33,000 price tag.
Oh yeah, it does NOT matter if you got a C or two in 6th grade. When my sister applied to Exeter (She also applied to Deerfield and Hotchkiss.) she had two Cs in 6th grade also. But in 7th and 8th grade she showed growth and her grades steadily rised. By the time she was in 8th grade she had straight As, and was accepted at Exeter and Hotchkiss (waitlisted at Deefield.)
She's a junior now by the way.
Financial aid is not a problem at most schools. Almost every major school dosen't put it into that much into consideration with the exception of Exeter.

ohhhh

but um...what's URM?
i'm not so worried about the financial aid part because i heard 40% of student body at andover are on financial aid....but what's URM?

Under represented minority.
Basically African Americans, Hispanic, and Native American students.
Some schools practice AA (affirmative action) which is basically where the admissions committee have lower standards for students of those ethnicities so they have more diversity.

This sounds random but Word Perfect is saying 'ethnicities' is a made up word.
Probably is. :P

I joined here...near the end of my 8th grade year I believe...I'm only in 9th grade now. I joined because I read threads about Miss Porter's (my current school) here, and because I'm trying to help my friend out. She's paranoid about joining internet message boards, so I joined instead and have been reading around for answers to different questions of hers.

I actually like the Chances board. And the Musical Theatre major board and High School. Once in awhile I check out the Yale board for my friend.

And I happen to know of a success story at Choate admissions and a waitlist story, by the way...
