thanks for the insight into the what the minds of admission committees are looking at! Do they get the majority of this type information from your application or do you try and bring it up during an interview without sounding like you're bragging to them?

I only applied to Miss Porter's, so I can't give much insight on Choate, etc. But at my MPS interview, the admissions officer looked at a questionnare they had had me fill out and mail in and asked me questions based on what I had filled in. For instance, she saw I like musical theatre and we started chatting about RENT. And she read that I liked softball and talked to me about the Varsity softball team's championships for the past few years. I'd say the interview is the best time to show you're PASSIONATE about what you write about on your application.
However, I don't know if other schools have a questionnare like mine did...the only piece of advice I can give you is try to talk as passionately about your favorite subjects as possible when they ask.

Good advice I'll remember for the next interview. The ones I've been to so far have only asked my favorite subjects and why, (no questionnaires to fill out, etc.). They've been more interested on values and what type of person you are from the questions they've asked so far .... Thanks again!

mann...that's SERIOUS

How far are you guys into your application?
I've already completed the general information form, passed out all my reccomendations (but only have of them filled it out so far...), and did my Exeter and Andover interview.
Basically I just have to do my essays...

I've completed all of my application forms and have passed out the transcript releases and teacher recommendations. I've done most of the campus visits and interviews as well. I took the SSAT and awaiting my scores. Now I just basically sit and wait til 10 Mar 05!

mann i'm wayyy behind...i didn't do ANYTHING! i gave the rec form to my english teacher, and is gonna give the school report form out on tuesday. man

I only got it done early cuz my mom is out of work (she had back surgery) so she was able to get me to the interviews before she goes back. Plus, not to mention, she stayed on my back everynight to get the essays and questions done!

I have to do all the essays myself, my mother doesn't know enough English to edit them.

For those of you who took the SSAT, how was it? Did you do anything to prepare for it?

Oh, believe me - my mom doesn't edit them anyways - she just hounded me to get them done. She says I have spell check, so use it. I had to type them first on Microsoft word, make corrections, print them and then write them out. It bit! anyway - I took the SSAT in Nov. I didn't do much, but I did take the sample tests in the SSAT prep book which seemed harder than the actual test. Still not sure how I did on them, but don't expect much over 60-70% because I'm not a genuis or anything anyway. I will be happy with a 60-70%.

PS - the scores were released to the schools on Friday so I should know my scores sometime this upcoming week. When i get them, I should be able to see if I scored where i think i did.

Oh ok, I see what you mean. And thanks for the SSAT insight.

No problem - I'll let you know once I get the scores. I'm not expecting a lot but hopefully I did "okay". What is your mom's first language?

We speak mostly Vietnamese and sometimes this other Chinese dialect.
BTW I'm planning to take the January 7th SSAT. My friend already took it last Saturday.

Best of luck on the test - let me know how you think it went once you take it!

Definitely, best wishes on your scores too. :)

this forums is called high school life, not junior high life

oh snap!!!!

integtpeR:

yeah, i guess i know that...but there IS no junior high life forum, as you may be aware of it by now :D no, i'm not trying to get offensive, so if i did, i apologize.

ANYWAYs,

i think i should get my applications ready real soon...i don't think i did very well on the SSATs...schools like exeter or andover don't accept below 90%, do they? i mean, i'm not EXCELLENT in some extracurricular stuff, so it's kind of serious.

From what I've read, scores are important there but not the only determining factor. Recommendations from teachers and grades weigh heavily on the decision. Anyways- best of luck to you, hope you get what you want.

IntegtpeR: Is this what we have to look forward to in High School? Don't know about anyone else, but a thread here and there which clearly indicate it's jr HS students, shouldn't be a problem, what do you think?
