Jr. Year Schedule??

hey guys :)
this is my first actual post, but i've been a lurker for..quite a while now haha
anyway, i'm debating between two possible schedules for my junior year, and i really need some opinions. thanks!

option 1:

Algebra III/Trig (taking precalc over next summer)
French IV
English 11 (self studying for both AP English exams)
APUSH
AP Environmental Science
Physiology
Ceramics
Free Period

total - 6 academics. i'm also self studying for the AP Psych exam.

option 2:

Algebra III/Trig
French IV
English 11
APUSH
AP Environmental Science
Physiology
1 st semester: either AP World Comparative Politics OR Economics (and possibly take an AP Economics exam in May) // 2nd semester: Cultural Anthropology
Free Period

total - 7 academics per semester; 8 over the course of the yr because of those electives

I've already fulfilled all art requirements, and I'm also planning to take Honors A Capella next year, as well as a few more APs and stuff. I play two sports a year, I sing outside of school 2x/week, tutor kids 1x/wk, write for the school newpaper, and am active in 4 school clubs, and quizbowl. plus i have an hourlong commute, so I can rarely start hw before 9 pm...
I'm really excited about all the classes that I want to take, but I would also prefer not to go crazy and start failing in the middle of the year, so.... opinions??

Hmmm? Trig is usually the same things as Pre Calculus, maybe with the exception of limits and vectors. Definitely I don’t think you can take AP US History with that extracurricular activites…and the rest of your APs along with your other classes. You’ll be awake a 5:30AM trying to finish your US essay. Good luck with that, you will FAIL IMHO. Even if you do your HW, you’ll likely to have a quiz or test, and you’ll be so tired you will not do well. If you still want to take your classes go for Option 1.

^ lol pessemism

Well, taking APUSH is a given. I took the AP Euro exam last year (same teacher), without studying, and got a 4 just from having been in his class. I love history, so I’m not worried about that. Oh, and I wake up at 5 30 to get ready for school so that’s nothing new :P

why not take precalc now? Also what are you leaving for senior year?

Is AP envirosci and physiology necessary? Why not just take AP bio instead?

Does your school not offer AP English?

Here’s what I think would be a reasonable schedule for junior year:
-precalc (honestly Algebra III/trig? How much pre-pre-calc do you need?)
-French IV
-AP English language
-APUSH
-AP Bio
-Ceramics
-free period

That’s respectable for almost any school in the nation. That will also set you up senior year to do:
-AP calc or AP stats (or both, in which case pick one from bullet 4)
-AP English lit
-AP social science (econ or govt or whatever)
-(2 of…) AP science or AP French or another AP social science/history depending on what you’re more into.

You don’t have to be too worried for college admissions if you did that schedule. And if you took on one more legit class one of the years you’d definitely not have to be worried as much. At least at my HS, that schedule would set one up for admission into everything but top 10 schools, assuming grades and the like were in order.

If you’re dead set on those two options, option 2 looks more rigorous, but it kinda seems like you’re just getting a laundry list of trivial classes at that point. Not much of a substance, foundation, core, whatever you want to call it.

I absolutely suck at basic math. I might switch up into Trig/PC, but I honestly think that actually learning math for the first time in my memory, instead of just struggling to keep up, might be beneficial. I can’t take AP Bio for scheduling reasons - it’s a double period, and interferes with some other classes and whatnot. My school doesn’t offer AP English, but we have a fairly rigorous English department to begin with. Senior year, I plan to take:
Calculus
AP French
Research Methods in Biology (semester long, student designed labs - all students required to enter science competition thingy)
Honors a capella
Creative Writing // AP Gov
English
Free
Economics/AP World Comp - basically whatever I don’t end up taking this year

I definitely agree with the “laundry list” opinion…I just feel rather inadequate because of my low-level math class (I was in accelerated Algebra II last year, and got Bs) so I was trying to make up for that. I will take those three electives before I graduate, out of pure personal interest, but I’m trying to figure out if they would add substance to my transcript that colleges would appreciate jr. yr. I have a feeling that AP World Comp. won’t really help if I take it 2nd semester, senior year. (I’ll still take it then, however, if that’s what ends up happening)

oh, and thanks for your opinions! it’s really nice to have someone actually think about their reply :)
