Hello there! I pondered upon this site with an anxious heart. As you all know, its time for college applications again and things aren't looking too bright for me. But anyhow the results reflect my dedication, or lack of it in this case, towards my studies in the past 3 years so there isn't really anyone to blame but myself. So here it is and please give me some enlightenment. Thank you!

Chinese
Arrived in US 3 years ago
Not a citizen (permanent resident)
Lives in LA, CA
Attends an average high school in an average suburban area

nice SATs, i have to say. 1460 combined M + CR. Don't know how your W score will factor in though.

800 in SAT II Chinese will not help you since you arrived in this country 3 years ago and are a native speaker. The only thing it will do for you is get you an exemption from some foreign language classes maybe.

730 is not bad for an SAT II US HIst

GPA below 3.0 will be your killer if you don't make it into your dream school. What's your rank btw?

Also, we have no idea how your recs and essays will stand, and they are pretty important.

You say your ECs are mediocre... are they mediocre for the average person or mediocre for the average applicant at the schools you mentioned?

All in all, your SATs should be fine, your GPA is not (unless your rank is awesome).

Why is that GPA low? Transitiion issues, slacking off, or something else? If you have a good reason, you can turn that low GPA into a weapon to get you in.
