Hey I'm an undergraduate who recently tried out for Juilliard precollege viola...and I made it in!! I'm so excited and anxious...and yet I feel really unworthy of making it in. The thing is, I've been a violinist for 10 years and am considered advanced right now. But this year, I decided to tryout the viola because my teacher said that it would aid me certain aspects of the violin that I owuld not be able to achieve just by playing the violin itself. I fell in love with the viola's musical needs and rich sound...and before I knew it, my violin teacher recommended that I try out for Juilliard...this was three months before the audition date! I practiced my butt off and am glad I made it in but I've heard that there's a better chance of making viola in Juilliard than in violin. I hope I don't end up as a joke when studying there next year...because it'll still take some time to get used to the new clef and different requirements for the viola.
Sooooo I'm just wondering if there are any current Juilliard precollege students who can detail me in on what it's like there: the scheduling, if you have free time and what you do, what the people are like, if the program is unbelievably demanding to the point of being really stressful, and stuff like that...I'm really really excited and want to get a preview! One of my senior friends was in the precollege for viola for about a year and a half...and then decided to drop out beacuse he felt it was a waste of time and really boring. I'm not sure hw musical he is but I'm really passionate about music so I hope that it was just a bad experience for him (he especially hated solfege haha.) Thankss a lottt :D

First thing, you didn't get 'lucky' - you most definitely deserved your admission and you should be proud, especially playing such an instrument as the viola (I'm a viola player as well).

I'm sorry, but the only other information I can give you is that my music teacher went to Julliard on the double bass - and he's completely crazy. :)

Hello violist :)
I don't go to Juilliard - but no time playing the viola is ever wasted. Some of my friends go to Juilliard, though, and they love it.

thanks a lot guyssss (:
mann im so excitedd haha
But is there anyonee out there who has gone and can tell me more personal stuff like all the fun things that happen and maybe all the worst experiences at the precollege haha
