Juilliard

maxtexada: i wasn't invited either. wow, this kind of sucks..because i know i can play much better than i did on my CD.

Sorry to hear that. Where else did you apply?

Actually, my CD was pretty good. I must say that I'm surprised, but you never know what goes on behind the admission doors.

I'll just have to rock my auditions at Mannes, Manhattan and NYU.

I just found out I wasn't invited to a live audition :-(

My CD sucked...so I guess I'll have to get over it. I can go to Juilliard for grad.
For now, a professor at USC Thornton School of Music is willing to take me as her student. I'll settle there. =) Oh, and I'm auditioning at MSM and Peabody.

pianoman1189: it seems to be pretty competitive this year...sigh Best luck to you!

My D got the rejection e-mail yesterday morning as well - her first so far - with only MSM to hear from. Chin up...that meant it was just not the right school for you at this time! You have excellent schools to audition for which just shows how unpredictable this crazy selection process is! Best of Luck and keep posting as you proceed down the audition trail.

D (vocal performance senior at Rice) did get a Julliard audition during her application process. She was so excited. However, she blew the audition- started with a song that was very challenging and didn't quite nail it. She was disappointed (didn't make the next round), but re-grouped and flew off to Indiana for the next audition. None of the vocalists from Interlochen advanced that year. (as the parent, I was glad. I knew Julliard wasn't the right choice at that point in her life)

I couldn't agree with you more!

My symphathy to all of you who are not invited - I know how it feels. But don't be too disappointed. Recording is such a poor (and unfair) way to judge musical abilities, and it is very probably that not getting a Juilliard invitation is not a reflection on your true ability at all. Take a day or two to be sad, then forget about Juilliard for now and focus on your other auditions - you still have a chance to nail those!

Congratulations natalied1!!!! best of luck to you! lorelei, I believe this year is a different case. I got an email just yesterday saying that I as not invited for a voice audition at Juilliard. They said they will also mail a hardcopy of the "I regret to inform you" notification...

It does sound like a rough year! In private conversations with some members of the Juilliard voice faculty, I have been told that they would rather not take undergraduate voice students at all, but they have no choice. Some years, their acceptees are older, even as undergrads. They believe, as do I, that young singers belong in protected environments with good performance opportunites, excellent teaching, and a chance to gain experience and confidence. So do not fret. It means very little in the scheme of things, except that they do not think that they are what you need. Prove them right. Conservatory life is limiting, more of a trade school than a thorough education, and life is very long....better to be enriched in many ways intellectually. Good luck to all!

Just heard from MSM - passed the pre-screen and will be auditioning in March. Phew! The negative response from Juilliard started making me doubt. Perhaps they don't want "old" people in their Master's program.

I hope everyone else had good luck with the pre-screens!

My son has still not hear from Juilliard prescreening undergrad jazz major. Has anybody heard from this department?

No, that is odd. I would go ahead and call the admissions office, just to find out when they anticipate notifications going out. After all, people need to plan their lives :)

Congrats Maxtexada!!!! My D heard from MSM also...early March will be a bit of a train wreck if she gets a Curtis callback with MSM and Mannes all in the same week...it will be interesting to say the least!

Congrats to you and your daughter, ABlestMom! Early March is definately going to be a bit tense, I'm afraid. At least the repertoire is all similar, if not the same.

Good Luck!
