Should we sign up for classes as soon as possible on July 8th? I've heard people say that we have plenty of time to sort out our classes when we arrive on campus; but won't the classes be full by then?

For freshmen I wouldnt really worry because most of your classes are decided for you. And there is another add/drop period in August right before classes start. I think July 8 is for upperclassmen making changes to their schedules. I mean you can go ahead if you want to, but you should talk to your advisor first.

July 8 isn’t just for upperclassmen…A&S freshmen can start choosing classes that day online (not sure about the other colleges). They supposedly fill up VERY quickly so sign up early!!

^if i remember correctly, A&S freshman just select their classes to get an idea of what they will be taking, but this is not actual registration. the actual registration occurs during orientation week when you run around in person to different rooms/buildings getting faculty to register you. not sure if things are different this year.

You wont officially know your classes until orientation. Plus they reserve many spots for freshmen.

I thought things were a little different this year and that class registration was completely online.

Some excerpts:

~Pre-enroll during your appointment window through Student Center.
- View courses in which you were enrolled by your college.
- Submit course requests based on your college specific information.
- Enroll in a Physical Education course (see #6 for more information).

~July 30 - August 9: Cast your First-Year Writing Seminar (FWS) ballot.
View FWS options and rank your top 5 preferences. There are a wide variety of seminar subjects and meeting times, so you can choose seminars that fit your existing schedule. Do not choose seminars that conflict with your existing schedule.

~August 17: Check Student Center to view your schedule and verify your registration status.
You will be able to view your First-Year Writing Seminar enrollment and other courses on August 17. You will also be able to verify that you have no holds that prevent your university registration.

~August 25: Add/Drop begins.
The Add/Drop period is your opportunity to make changes to your schedule. There are restrictions on how long you have to add and drop various courses. There will be more specific information posted in July. However, the add period for most courses is three weeks from the beginning of classes and drop is approximately seven weeks from the beginning of classes.

Is there a period once we get on campus when we can freely sit-in on classes before making official class selection choices?

^well you can attend classes after they start without actually being enrolled in them to see if you actually want to take them…if you like it then you can just add the class

and that is good that they went to an online system; running around goldwin smith was a pain

yeah…I was trying to imagine running around to sign up for classes and it wasn’t a pretty sight xD
