June 12th ACT, Official Reading Thread

ok, also 1209352, why dont you think that the answer was “to transport people to another place” is correct?

UVA, do you remember what question “to transport people” is in?

Two different questions. The first, “to transport people to another place,” was about the second paragraph, and the other about the emotions that the Providence Fire evoked in the people.

What was the transport people to another place talking about?

passage about the dad, treats, and india stories

the two other people in the store were sometimes shy around eachother

i also remember something about the dad telling his daughter to go paint in a business tone and the girl was surprised by his different “personalties”

are those right?

it didn’t say the people were sometimes shy around eachother, that definitly wasnt and awnser
personalitys are right

"Two different questions. The first, “to transport people to another place,” was about the second paragraph, and the other about the emotions that the Providence Fire evoked in the people. "

what about the sensory effect then? was this yet another different question?

the sensory effect had to do with the entire first paragraph

but was that one of the awnsers I’m getting rather confused
were these all one question
“transport people to another place” I’m sure this is a correct awnser
sesory effect, dont even remember this to be honest
and there was 1 more

What was the one talking about the people staying at the fire thing until midnight when it dies down.

yea that was about the fire taking people to another time and place or was it emotions that the Providence Fire evoked in the people or were these 2 seperate questions?

What about the question about thomas edison, it was like why did the author include the parentheses (he punched a clock every day he came to work or something)

was it to show how he was confined to the regulated workplace like a typical worker?

it was either that or he wanted to appear like the typical u.s. worker which doesn’t make much sense because that doesn’t seem like Edison’s intention

well edison bought the clock himself… he wasn’t forced to clock into his own lab was he?

“to transport people to another place (not sure about this one)”

Was this talking about the effect of waterfire on people? I put something like “it had a hold on people” I think

“to transport people to another place (not sure about this one)”

if i remember the question correctly, i thought the answer was to make the area more friendly to pedestrians. that may be a different question, but i’m pretty sure its the right answer for it–i read back in the passage, and it was word for word.

Transporting people was the final paragraph. I chose “the hold” it had on the people though. The paragraph was more about how captivated the people were than how they were transported to another place/time (even if that was specifically mentioned).

Is that the question with one choice being “it had a compelling hold on people”? I put that choice because it stated that even after the event, people stuck around.

“if i remember the question correctly, i thought the answer was to make the area more friendly to pedestrians” this was the question about what the original argument was the for building and this was right. it was like easier to walk for pedestrians or something

yea but “it transported people to another time and place” also shows that it had an effect on people. I think I was going to put the compleeing hold on people but I knew that “it transported people to another time and place” showed that the people were tyhere for a long time because they lost the time and stuff

edit: was “transport people to another time and place” and “the hold it had on people” both awnsers to the same question?

UVA- i cant remember, but i know that i did put down that “it had a hold on people” as an answer

It was the question talking about the last part where the people were still there after the fire thing was done with until all of it burned out.
