June 14th ACT ****************************

aight i am trying to remember some random questions...

mellow dude feelin the ocean breeze passage:
- spiritual connection to the ocean was from his ancestors
- initial reaction was to observe his surroundings
- lightness = weightlessness (i think)
- peaceful but slightly uneasy

neanderthal reading passage:
- neanderthals were an intelligent and adaptable species that evolved from an earlier human species
- brain size and hand anatomy
- shea/shia (don't remember the spelling)
- modern humans did not initially move to colder and temperate climates

harriet tubman passage:
- larson's first book / coauthored (i put larson's first book but wasn't sure)
- authors sought new primary sources b.c of tubman's illiteracy

i don't remember what the other passage was! oh well. nothing's going to change now anyway.

Does anyone remember what the actual question was that everyone got 16a as the answer for? I don't remember getting that answer and I want to see what I did.

light was luminousness, right? And he felt calm but at times slightly uneasy right? (first passage questions)

hmm i thought it was weightlessness cause he was gonna 'fly away' or something. i could be wrong.

hmm ... i got weightlessness

and yes, calm but slightly uneasy.

I said ethanol as well. For the Larson question, I said that the book was coauthored. (I think the sentence said "she and Larson blah blah blah." So I put that.)

In the English section, was there supposed to be a comma after the word (although) in the phrase "Although, something something something,?" Or was it supposed to be (without a comma after Although) "Although something something something,?" I guessed the latter because a comma after although seemed too much (i wish i could remember what the sentence said.)

Overall, I think I did okay:

English- Easy

Math- Surprisingly pretty easy (I couldn't use my calculator...I only have a TI-89...I didn't want to cheat or anything. BUT contrary to what most people may think, you CAN complete the math section without a calculator!! I was so proud of myself! :))

Reading: Easy...passages weren't that bad...time limit was crazy, but I finished with time to spare. (The Neanderthal passage seemed familiar...I think it was similar to a passage from October '07)

Science: Easy (Thank goodness for AP Bio!!) I just did not know the physics that well. But I think I did okay overall.

Essay: Really simple. (standard 5 paragraphs, thesis, 2 1/4 pages long, and I qualified the essay.) I got an 11 the last time I took it. I hope I got the same or a 12 this time!

I'm really pressing for a 30 or above (I would love a 33+, but that's probably just wishful thinking ;))

same as chichick

did anybody run out of time for reading? questions were so easy but im a slow reader so i didn't get to read the last passage. i guessed. is that REALLY bad?

yeah i got everything lalapoop said...i think i'm going to leave now because i dont want to know any more answers =D

I was beginning to read the harriet tub man passage (last one) and answered a couple of questions and ran out of time. I guessed on like the last 8
heyli: yes, that is really bad

Ionization energy wasn't on the test, I was using it as an example to what akitta said. You can have a term, and the ACT really just requires you that you've learned it in your science class. Then it gives you a #, and you have to know whether a higher # is good or bad(not all the time, but what the # means). I can tell what the # meant when I put the words high and low behind the word, but I was under pressure as I was not experienced to managing time on the Reading and Science sections. My goal for September is to finish those sections with at least 2 minutes left.

Question compilation

aight i am trying to remember some random questions...

math
- triangle area = 6
- repeating 1/7 decimal = 1
- 16a
- 48 was length of each side of square that had 9 circles inscribed in it
- 100 was the degree measure of the angle in the circle
- 5 +/- 3ai
- -ab - cd (matrices)
- p = a/(1 + rt)
- at .63 cents each, person x bought # of pencils (forgot)

mellow dude feelin the ocean breeze passage:
- spiritual connection to the ocean was from his ancestors
- initial reaction was to observe his surroundings
- lightness = weightlessness (i think)
- peaceful but slightly uneasy

neanderthal reading passage:

harriet tubman passage:

- authors sought new primary sources b.c of tubman's illiteracy

i don't remember what the other passage was! oh well. nothing's going to change now anyway.

English: easy as always
Math: medium.. but math is not my forte.. I just hope I guessed right on those last 15 or so.
Reading: easy but the prose fiction threw me off
Science: I actually understood over half of the passages this time.. although I was confused about figuring out which mitosis stage was which and some blood type thing because I couldn't find anything in the background information/experiments that talked about those.
Essay: I decided not to take it this time. I probably should have though.

What was the length of the other base of the traphezoid?

What did everyone get for the QB question, which had the circle diagram and the two radii of 12 and 9. I got 19.

Did everyone get In fact, the human eye.... for the rainbow english passage.

I got 19 too.

I think I got 'though' for that one, but I'm not sure.

i thought it said explicitly in the passage that it was "Larson's first book" . or idk

yeah..english was easy, math was easy, reading was pretty easy, science was hard, because i did not manage my time properly and had to guess on the last 3-4 questions.

i got i believe 6 for the trapezoid question

AKittka, that's what I thought too. I thought I read that really carefully.

No, Larson published two books. I'm pretty sure the question was referring to her second book, which was coauthored with that other lady. lol

i thought it said, "larson's first book", right after the name of that book
