June 2 SAT Latin Subject Test

dative i got that one :)

ut communi consilio rei publicae miserae opem atque
auxilium feramus

we may bring help and resources to the republic

and yeah, eum is that

Consules ad eum exercitum venerunt quem in Apulia habui.

The consuls came to that army which I had in Apulia

Thanks! (whew!) res republicae always trips me up. I don't know why, but it just does.

Good god... that was horrible for me today. And since I want to be a Latin teacher, that's not good at all! The beginning questions were all easy, but the first text killed me. Thankfully, it didn't seem to go too well for everyone else either. Oh, and I agree about the poem.

I ran out of time though, so I left a bunch of questions on the first text blank... Anyone else have to do that?

I answered all but I wish I would have left some blank. But the thing is that the ones I would have left blank would be the ones I actually got right. I got some of the ones I was sure of wrong (like the res republica and the nolim ones).

ok slowly but surely i'm getting confident about latin - not so much about math though

i came out of it confident and now i probably got like 1/4 of them wrong :(

i came out of it feeling terrible and i still do feel terrible. hahah.

i'm the first in my school to take the latin sats. i really didn't want to let my latin teacher down but so much for that... i got all my quem quams mixed up, from what i've been reading on this thread.

what's the curve like, anyone?

It's really lenient I think. You can miss 6 or 7 and still get 800. Does anyone know for sure though?

Appproximately 8 wrong = 800. But that's from CB 2005. Still, very lenient.

Just out of curiousity what's the test like? This was probably everyones first time, but I take latin and no one at my school really takes the SAT IIs but i do really well in latin. There are like no books I found prepping you for the SAT II latin. Is it hard?

We use the oxford latin textbooks.

hey! we use oxford latin textbooks too! that's cool.

i used the book from rea. it came out recently and it's pretty solid review. a lot of the stuff in the book was on the test.

i've done the oxford latin course for three years now. i didn't think it was TOO hard but i find it is one of the more difficult sat subject tests. but if you do stable review (instead of cramming like i did) you should be fine, especially with a fine textbook like the oxford.

(aren't the pitures great?)

There is one book by REA. Its tests I found weren't that bad. I missed about the same number of questions on those 2 tests and the real one put out by collegeboard.

But taking AP Latin helps very much.

In my case, I just have a really good latin teacher. :)

i wish i had time to use the rea book, but i ended up just taking 1 practice test from the collegeboard.

btw, anyone use wheelock's latin? I did the 30/40 of the chapters this year (my first year of latin) and read the last 10 this week.

oh, and one of the passages was in chapter 38 of my book. wish i had finished it :(

Hhah my latin teacher is amazing, he's really anal about every little thing in latin which helps. Our school offers APs in everything else except for latin, because its a kind of small program.

Hah, the pictures are HILARIOUS in oxford though, its amazing. I'm currently in the middle of the third book, but in my 2nd year, and by the time I take it our class will be reading excerpts from famous Roman books and stuff...

asdfa thanks sorry thats like a bajillion questions, just it seems like NOBODY takes the latin SAT!

hm i'm wondering if anyone found the first text from today. it's really bothering me and i want to mull over it and actually translate it.

i'm ocd like that.

haha, you're so funny. it's on the second page of this thread

does "uti" require ablative?

edit: just looked it up! it does :D
does anyone remember the exact question?

So my friend told me today's (sunday's) test was easy. Not fair, eh?

Hello?
Hello?
Is anyone there?
Are you dead like this infernal language?
I hope not.
I like you.

How'd everyone do? I got a 650. Not really happy with it, but seeing as I thought I failed miserably...
