June 2006 - English Literature

This was my second time taking this test, I thought it was a bit easier than the November test but still rather confusing. I talked with my friend who also took the Lit today and we found that we disagreed on a number of questions. I'm really nervous though because I HAVE to get a significantly better score than last time. Any thoughts or comments about your experience with the SAT II Literature today?

The story about music and the guy whose girlfriend dumped him confused me greatly. Remember any of the answers? I thought they were rather silly questions.. also on the Pygmalion one why was he jealous?

What time are we allowed to discuss answers?

The passage about Zora Neale Hurston was the most confusing to me. I also spent a great deal of time on the poem about Galatea. I remember I had the most trouble with questions 7 (the first passage about Mrs. Slipshod or something & Joseph). I'm also worried because I can't remember if I left an answer blank or not on the music passage. It's weird to me because I usually remember my answers quite distinctly right after the test. But this time I don't even remember what I put, if anything at all. Bleh. =[

Oops... not entirely sure, sorry.

I thought it was fair. poetry was easier than expected

I wonder what the curve will be like. The curves in Kaplan seem to be a lot more lenient than the curves in PR or the REAL SAT II book. Anyone with past experience have any input on past curves? I really want to get 750+. Now if I could only dig out my old score report...

Could you do that? What do score reports actually say.. just the number you got right and wrong etc?

I found the letter they mailed to me, but it only tells the percentile not the actual number of rights/wrongs/omits....anyone with a detailed score report?

By the way you should probably be allowed to discuss now because I'm in England and finished the test 4 hours ago, Australia finished it before us and so if America has finished then there's no one else really (if it's done on time zones..) Depends which coast you're on I suppose.

Well, ok...any questions that were particularly difficult or confusing? The question that I spent a lot of time on was number 7, which asked "which of the following characteristics is LEAST associated with Mrs. Slipshod?"

poetry was awesome. and, i had already read the zora passage! yuss. i thought it was fair except for the train passage. i started freaking out and chose random answers. we'll see.

the slipshod passage... was it II and III only?

Which question was that? I remember the first Q was about who should find Mrs. S amusing. The answer I put was like Joseph, narrator, and reader.

i wasn't all too sure that joseph was finding her amusing..

I think he did, considering that Mrs. S was obviously misusing words while Joseph was saying how "learned" she was.

^agreed. i hope that's right, anyway. heh.

****...i didnt notice she was misusing words

what was the failing ridicule one for joseph?

It took me a while to realize she was misusings words too...I think the ridicule one was vanity? I was a bit unsure about that. What about the LEAST characteristic of Mrs. S - presumption, irony, self-deception, lust, or aggression? I spent sooooo much time on that one.

i thought vanity as well.
