June 2006 - Math Level 2

What math are you in ?

I am a sophomore as well. I think I only got 2 wrong from the looks of these boards.

im taking pre calc right now

Earlier in this thread someone said that ln(x) = e^-x question's answer was E.
I think it was B too. I just did it and got .28

*** is wrong with you people? You think you missed 6 and you want to CANCEL YOUR SCORES? -6 is nearly an 800 anyway, right? You would have to be crazy to cancel any score below 700, probably 600 if you are a sophomore.

don't you mean above 700?

im not crazy, lol, i just think that if i can do better why not. im not going to cancel the scores but i mean taking it again is also not a good thing....o well, i'll just have to wait for my score and see.

if you're debating, just cancel it

Oops yeah I meant 700 or better. But anyway, there is no reason to cancel such a score. You think you can do better, but maybe you won't? Why not just have the score as a baseline? If you do retake and do better, even a score in the 500s doesn't hurt you, they only take the highest administration unless you took it more than 3 times. In any case, the only person that would see the lower score is the low-level minion who types up your highest scores for the file. Don't even think about cancelling. I think it's probably too late anyway.

I would think that sophomores would perform better on this test than juniors simply because they just had precalculus, while we have been out of it for a year.

Blah most of the precalc stuff is really really really easy to remember over the course of a year. The trig is extremely basic and so are the graphs, nothing really escaped me at least.

drummer, you do realize that 800 for Math 2 is not even 90th percentile?

Yes. But from what I've read, adcoms treat it by scores, not percentiles. That's just how it is. And BTW, I definitely flopped on this one, I am predicting 700 or less. But I'm not about to cancel my scores, I just know I'll have to do better next time. There is NO advantage to cancelling, unless you were looking at a 400 or something. You would be leaving yourself in the dark as to where your skills stand, and you would not benefit in the admissions process in any way.

To the poster a couple of spots back on the matter of soph/junior: Nationwide, I think most schools have Juniors in Pre-Calc. For that matter, I think high-schools with a class past Calc are a small percentage of the whole. My crappy school doesn't even have BC yet.

the point is that an 800 is not such a big deal

No, your point seems to be that b/c there is a fair amount of 800 scorers, you should/would be justified in cancelling any other score. This is sheer stupidity. Especially considering the person who asks about cancelling will almost certainly be above 750.

Well getting an 800 means you've done better than 88% of other kids you took the test in the nation, which is awesome. Keep in my mind that the ones who take these subject tests are above average to begin with, and the majority of them are going for top tier schools.

well i cancelled my scores yesterday, and i skipped 11 and got 1 wrong, but i know where my weaknesses are, so its alright to cancel if you know you didnt do too well and you know you can improve.

But guguru, what is the purpose? What have you gained by cancelling? You scored a 750! That score is great for every school in the country! Why oh why would you throw that away? What if you are sick next time? What if you loose your cool and bomb it? What if you really missed like 20 of them, wouldn't you like to know? In all this, I've yet to see someone give an actual reason to cancel.

I canceled my score because I accidentally made pee pee on my paper='(
