Polynesian migrations..

OMG. for the egypt protectioin thing, in kaplan it clearly says there were cataracts AND formidable deserts to east and west. so that question was seriously effed up. cuz how would we know which factor mattered more? arghh

ok, for cotton, how can it be u.s. india and egypt? i still thimkl its u.s. jamaica and south africa...

but think about it
a waterfall or a desert?
will a WATERFALL likely keep out invaders?
or will a DESERT more likely keep out invaders?
i'll leave it up to you, but i say desert

ok heres a link from bartleby of byzantine at its height.

http://www.bartleby.com/67/images/byzant01.gif

and heres ottoman : http://m3mary.com/Empires/ottoman_empire.jpg

so i guess the answer was byzantine. aah screwed up again. this is so depressing. the test-writers seriously put two right answers on like all the questions, and then asked you to judge which one;s "more" correct, which is soo subjective. i hate humanities tests...

yea i think its desert too...

(aaaahhh.... sry :/)

ok i have 15 wrong so far. aknd probly 20 by the time we're done....

Like I said on Page 7 with alot of other answers, deserts make more sense than waterfalls because it forces people to go towards the water to farm and survive while keeping out invaders.

And obviously it's Byzantine, Justinian made a foray into Italy. The Muslims never advanced into the heart of Western Europe. They were stopped at the edge of Spain and the Eastern European frontier. They also lost the Mediterranean at Lepanto. Did they give us the date of the map? Circa 1XXX CE? That would've been another clue.

The Chinese sent Zheng He out to show China's power. He went around telling everyone China pwns you and giving them gifts (and expecting gifts back).

The arch was a commemoration for some Roman emperor.

Han Dynasty introduced the Civil Service Exams. The Qin built the Great Wall; the Han extended it.

Anyone remember what they put for that one question about Korea/Vietnam/China and why the historians call them all linked by Sinification? I chose that they all at one point adopted Chinese characters and were influenced by Confucian thought. I chose it cuz Shinto > Buddhism many times in Japan and China never successfully conquered Japan. Can't remember other choices.

yeah i believe that deserts is correct for that one too

as for cotton what do you mean how can it be US, India, Egypt.. those were the main cotton producing countries...

Stability was by the river flodding, it was the basis to all civilizations back then. Yellow, Indus, Tigris Euprhates ect ect.

Yes, the Egyptians depended on the predictability of the Nile as an anchor to stability. But the Nile was not a choice. Cataracts are, but those did not affect much of anything. The desert would work because it's why they stay near the Nile. If the place was green everywhere, they wouldn't need the Nile.

I'm going to repaste my Page 7 post.

I'm just going to answer everything asked up until now.

The Egyptian geography question was a trap. I put down deserts because it forces the Egyptians to water, but I was really iffy. Cataracts didn't do anything really, they're just waterfalls in the south that stop you from getting on your rowboat.

Socrates emphasized self-analysis.

Brahmans were India's priest/scholar caste.

Britain's primary cotton sources: US, Egypt, India. Note they were all once colonies of Britain.

Female leaders: India, Pakistan, Phillipines.

I missed the Ghandaran statue picture question. It's Mesopotamia, I think.

The Kush were good with iron.

The map was Byzantine. Justinian made a foray into Italy that didn't last too long.

Lenin said "Imperialism is highest form of capitalism." I missed this one, it was a throw between this guy and Keynes, who actually wrote on imperialism and funding post-Depression.

The Romans appeased new additions by granting citizenship to the elite.

The Janissaries were recruited via devshirme in the Christian Balkans.

The Sepoy Rebellion transferred control of India to the Crown.

The Napoleonic Wars reestablished the status quo amongst monarchies.

When did Sub-Saharan Africa get iron?

Why was Vietnam/Korea/Japan considered sinified?

yeah deserts kept out many invaders especially from the west oh well nothing we can do now im pretty confident though

Marshy land= better farming etc etc= stability, IMO

agree to disagree

They had a marshland choice? As in the Lower Delta? If they did, then that's a reference to the Nile, and therefore, the correct answer. =O

BUT ONLY IF THEY MENTION THE LOWER DELTA! (Northern Egypt)

For romans granting citizenship, I also read thye kept the language of the conquered country he same for means of communication...

They mentioned delta...

I'm ninty % certain they said northern egypt too.

egypt didnt produce cotton! and it wasnt a colony, they only took it as protectarate in 1882. but both south africa and jamaica did, emphasize did. and they were both colonies too...so by elimination it can't be india, just b/c a part of the answer is wrong.

for subsaharan, i said devloped iron before agriculter.

there was only one answer with india in it, and they were far and away Britain's biggest cotton producer.

Wait it said 'colonies'?
Damn, I have to read questions better!

damn now looking at this update i have about 11 wrong altogether and 1 omit. aah i cant have another mistake!
and i really love the posting of questions. keep it up!

For the Egyptian stability thing. I think they were emphasizing there isolation from attacks... unlike Mesopotamia. So deserts?

chickenboi i have ~13 :(

does anyone have there limits set in for retaking?

If I get less than a 750, I'm retaking.
