June 2009 ACT English Discussion

Good luck everyone! Post all discussion related to the June 2009 ACT English Section here.

Did anyone else have a “section 5” in the end? What was that?
(nevermind this shouldn’t be in English)

I had one too! It freaked me out since I thought I skipped a whole bunch of science questions. Any ideas?

that was an experiment…i just bubbled C cause i didnt feel like doing it

there was one about adding in a clause that was like “pharmaceuticals, medicine, and chemicals.” did you guys say it should go in or not?

^yes i said it was relevant.

yay! me too. i was about to pick “no, it digresses from the main point” but then i realized that the sentence focused on “some depicted workers in other Detroit industries” so industries was actually relevant to the sentence.

it “explained a broad term” right?

yeah that’s what i just about to say…it was something like it broadened the whatever…

The first section had A LOT of no errors.

Agree/disagree?

agreed. i felt like every other answer was either a or f.

I said it wasn’t relevant but I wasn’t sure
For the one about the 27 panels…was it grammatic correctness or new information?

ya i got a lot of no errors too

There were two I was confused on. The first was (question 4 I think?) something involving a hyphen and/or a comma before a “but.” The other was some convoluted phrase towards the end in the Japanese passage about constellations. Anyone remember the answers to those?

Slipped into was correct, right…?

It was either that or “fell upon”?

EDIT: The one with the hyphen was correct, I believe.

concerto -

i said it was new info

and sorry charlie brwn, don’t remember either of those…

xombie, i think slipped into was right. almost positive.

i put 27 panels as adding new information. i also put “slipped into.” and the hyphen is correct, if you’re referring to “–not on bike, but on Luigi” or something like that.

what was the convoluted phrase for the japanese constellations? was it “In still other areas of Japan,” because if it’s that i just said it was correct. all the other ones looked to be wrong.

New info.

10char

EDIT: In still other… was correct. (At least it was better than anything else there.)

I think I did really well on this section. Probably a 30.

the thing about the guy naming it Luigi was “DELETE” right…because it’s irrelevant?

I think the info describing what Luigi was was relevant otherwise you had no idea what luigi was.
