Alihaq717, I AM very proud of my son. I’m also very proud of all of you teens here at CC, who have to work harder and harder every year to get into those super-elite colleges that once were only extremely challenging and today are near-impossible stretches.

Don’t forget to make time to just relax and have fun – remember that even getting into that dream school is only an intermediate goal and not absolutely necessary to achieve happiness and success in life.

Lorem Ipsum, As to college views about the ACT essay, you can look at the common data set for each college (Section C, under “SAT and ACT policies,” C8C “Please indicate how your institution will use the SAT or ACT writing component”) to see what each college says about how it treats the essay. There is a thread on CC with links to the common data sets. As an alternative, you can use an internet search engine to search for the name of the college, plus “common data set.” I had Davidson College’s CDS handy; it says “No college policy as of now.”

The two tests measure very similar things. One method they could use for the concordance table (which they probably do use) is finding the ACT score of SAT scorers and seeing how the relate, i.e most 2400 scorers earn a 36 on the ACT (or vice versa), so they are considered equal.

let’s pick a random school - Carnegie Mellon, anyone?

Okay, so on collegeboard, it says you need (for mid 50%)

at least a 620 in reading, a 670 in math, and a 620 in writing. That would equal 1910

okay, so they want at least a 28 on the ACT. That’s (according to the conversion table) an 1880.

So do they accept lower ACT scores in comparison to SAT? If so, why is that?

I’ve been looking at Williams, where I am good for Mat SAT but a little low for Critical Reading. However, my ACT is right where it needs to be.

Should I increase my SAT score, or is my ACT score enough (this is with writing)?

No. The SAT scores can’t just be added up like that, remember across the sections not everyone will have relatively equal scores in all sections, most have one section that is better and one that is worse.

Wow…mine stayed the same -.- My sci. score went up by 2, my math dropped, my english went up, my reading stayed the same…Oh and my writing score went down by one…

SIGH Does anyone have any advice on how to write better on the ACT’s essay? Are there any prep books or websites that helped you with this?? I really need the help :(

I’m definitely not lying. Why would i go through the trouble of making ANother thread about whether i should retake my 32 if i were lying? Illogical if you ask me.

Well I was able to access my account in the morning but now I am unable to for some reason… it gives this message every time I try:

Your ACT record is currently not available. Please allow one work day before trying to access your record again. If you continue to receive this message after that, contact ACT.

So hopefully I’ll get my scores soon. Does anyone else have this message?
