So the score report came out today and the curve seems horrible.
-1 on math and 760?!
please tell me this is an error...

oh and I’m not an international

it was ***!
i just got one question incorrect and got a 780!!! !!
could’ve easily broken the 2100 mark, even if had got a 790!! grrrr… :-(

1 wrong and 780? are you an international?
my 760 is annoying and debtaing whether to pay 50 dollars for rescoring…

D’s scores:
M -2 740 (seems very harsh?)
CR -4 760
W -1, 10E 800

^That’s a very harsh math curve. Tougher than any of the QAS tests and the same as the other harshest curves in recent times (11/08 and 11/09 were both -1 = 760).

@Watermelon, rescoring won’t help you unless you think a mistake was made interpreting your particular answer sheet.

The curve was the way it was because the math part of the test you took was determined to be easier compared to previous SATs.

The math curves for when I took the test were pretty bad too… -1 got me a 780 in June 2009, and -2 gave me a 740 in Jan 2010. Seems like the math curve is usually like that… I have yet to see a nice curve where minus a few doesn’t drop you 20 to 40 points.

the math curve is usually harsh because the problems aren’t that difficult and many do well. I got -1 and got a 760.

^No, the curve has only to do with the relative difficulty of the test compared to other SATs, not with how well the test takers did.

Also, the average QAS math curve since March 2005 is: 800-790-760-740-720-710… The 5/2009 math curve was -1 = 800.

Those two things go hand-in-hand. If it was difficult, the cumulative average of all the test-takers would be lower. That is how the difficulty of a test is determined.

My D took the SAT Jun 2010 and her scores didn’t post. I called CB and was told to check the following Thursday (today) - still didn’t post. Online now says “Scores not yet available.” I called again and they said there was an exception in the score process. What does that mean? They said to check back Tuesday and if not available I should request them to create an escalation. ???

-3.0 For a 720… harsher than average curve.
-8.75 = -9 For CR = 700. This is pretty generous though.

@panther: No, that isn’t how the scoring works. The scores are standardized so that the difficulty of the test is effectively irrelevant. You may want to read [this College Board white paper](http://professionals.collegeboard.com/profdownload/pdf/rn14_11427.pdf) for the technical information about the curve / equating / standardization of the SAT. Also, see [thread=760312]this thread[/thread] for a long but example-filled discussion of the curve.

Whoa, what do you mean by rescoring? sorry, I’m lost :P

wow -1 760, thats not even close to being fair

i hate this test. -4 and i got a 700. damn college board haha

lol yeah me 2 ^

50/54 should not equal 700. not a fan of the sat. trying to get over 2200 but not sure how to study now besides take a class. any recommendations for a class in the bay area (CA)?

at least the CR had a much better curve than the Jan '10. my son, on that test, 3x =>750.
for math, 2x=>740, on march test, 1x =>770.
