The AP test is over, and for those of us taking the corresponding Subject Test, it's right around the corner! How have you guys been preparing? I'm using the Barron's SAT II World History book; does anyone know if it's good enough for an 800? I'm going to be cramming a lot over the next two weeks. Good luck to all of us!

I have the Barron’s SAT book too for the June test. I’ve been reading the Barron’s book, I read the PR AP Book which is helpful for trends, patterns, etc. I’m going to take 6 practice tests over the next two weeks and I’m also using flashcards on quizlet. If you want a link, PM me :)

How are you preparing? I’m overwhelmed.

Yeah I understand where you’re coming from msteiny. I have the Barron’s SAT as well. It’s pretty popular. How do you have 6 practice tests?

I’m hoping my knowledge from AP World will become useful I’m sorta nervous though. This is my first subject test… At least I don’t have to write anything.

Is there a big difference between Barron’s SAT and Barron’s APWH?

I’m guessing the six tests are two from Barron’s, two from PR, and two official tests (from the CB study guide). I have those as well.

No, AP Barron’s isn’t much different from SAT II Barron’s. I’ve heard AP is sufficient for the Subject Test.

I actually used Kaplan’s SAT world when I started studying and I’m hoping the questions are worded differently on the real thing or at least easier because when I took a diagnostic test I only got a 640…

Second on the previous question. Also, do any of you have links to tests?

Sent from my SPH-D700 using CC

Yeah, Studious, those are the tests are have. I’ve only taken one of the CB ones and got a 710. Hoping that’s a good sign. Still means I got a LOT of questions wrong lol.

Is the CB study guide worth purchasing? The one online with actual tests in it?

^ I’d say so.

I’m about a hundred pages through Barron’s, and I don’t know if I’m going to take the test anymore. I’m worried I won’t know enough by June 2nd. Also, 95 questions in an hour seems kind of ridiculous.

Haha, I’m on like 250s pgs. today, but cramming like 20 pages everyday :,(
I’ll say to go take the test, the worse case is that you can just cancel your score after you take the test if you feel you did horrible at it. (Unless you are taking with other subject tests, you have to cancel all at once I think.)

^ Yeah, I’m taking bio, so that wouldn’t work. I think I’ll just postpone it to December.

i see everyone else is stressing out but man oh man im scared D: i’ve read the barron’s book which is some 400 pages long? SO. MUCH. INFORMATION… i can’t remember it all and i’ve read through it twice (for the ap test which was surprisingly easy, in terms of MC), gonna try to read it two more times before the sat test gahh… i’ve gotten around 600+ on my practice tests that i take at a prep class, is that extremely low? i’m worried cuz i do NOT want to get anywhere in the 600’s on the test. but my memory is really bad; i didn’t read the book for a few days before the practice tests whereas i’ll read the book right before the sat test. any tips on how to retain the information?! i highlight, repeat out loud, and even take a few moments to try to really grasp a concept and apply it to the broad subject- doesn’t seem to be working /:
sorry this is such a long post, it’s my first! woohoo first sat subject test in ~1 week!

I’ve gotten 720 both times using the blue College board book (before studying), and I’m about 120 pages into the Barron’s. My school is strange so I’ve just finished my fourth year of world history, meaning my knowledge of pre 1000 CE history is not as strong as the details of World War 2, for example. So what score would be acceptable for the ivies in terms of the World History SAT II?

I’m cramming at 50 pages PER DAY on Barron’s! Yes, I took the AP already. Currently on Page 200.

I don’t even know how it is possible for you to read 50 pages per day without actually understand and remember it, same to pzowie. o__o;

You need to understand the material in detail “specifically;” I have been reading it since beginning of May and I’m only at page 359 today… though I do remember most of the stuff in the book…

About how many questions did you guys get wrong for the unit review quiz?
The “unscramble” thing is so hard, I didn’t even have time to study the chronological order of events -__-;;
So stressful.

does anyone have the general scoring chart for the SAT World?

and also would you guys say it’s better to omit or make an educated guess even though you’e not sure?

Just wondering, how good is Barron’s? I was hesitant to use it because of the poor reviews on Amazon so I went with Kaplan instead. For all the Barron users, did you find the questions similar to the CB style questions and was the material accurate?

Thanks!

If your comfortable with guessing, go for it. I would only if you can narrow it down to 2-3. if you fret about not knowing it and forget what the q is asking, your guess is not worth it.
