***June 2014: Chemistry (US)***

This is a thread for anyone who is taking the June SAT subject test in June.

Are you using Barron’s to prepare?

I’m using Barron’s. I took AP Chem so this test doesn’t look that bad. Hbu? @Awflapjackz‌

Yeah, I took AP Chem as well. I was just wondering because the exams seem a bit different. I’ll probably start prepping next weekend once all of my APs are over. It seems like Barron’s is the consensus, so thanks!

I’m using Barron’s and I’ve only taken Honors Chem. On my latest test I got 750-780 but I’m aiming for 800. Can I do it?

Barrons is much harder than the real test, so you’ll be fine. However, take the official released sat ii chem test just in case.

Yeah, I guess so. Would anyone be interested in doing an online chat room for a review or something where we go over questions?

Hey Hawkace! You have replied on my previous Math 2 post! Yeah even im taking it this june, just finished reviewing through barrons. People are saying barrons has a little extra stuff. What is the unnecessary stuff in Barrons?
SAT May results out tomorrow, I live in India so what day and time in eastern?

How do you find the official released subject tests? We need Math 2, Chem and U.S. History.

I will be in the same boat this June with you guys. Not trying to be arrogant… but I truly think I can take this test with my eyes closed ;)

So, I took a practice test today and got between a 780 and a 800, I took AP Chem so this test is nothing compared to that. I just need to review some stuff.

Hey @Hawkace‌ , do you have a comprehensive list of the topics that the new AP didn’t cover for the SAT2?

@rollingduck‌ I suggest looking at Sparknotes. The only thing that I was worried about on the Subject Test that wasn’t on the AP Tests was Orbitals and Organic Chemistry. OC was on the AP Test, but not as much as on the subject test.

@Hawkace‌ Does SN have a correlation chart?
BTW, I’m using the Barrons atm.

I’m taking it in June too! Given that there’s only 13 days until the test, do you guys think it’s worth it to finish Barron’s (I’m only 1/4 of the way…), or will SparkNotes be sufficient?

Although Kleins for Orgo is a really good, I highly doubt one can finish Orgo 1 in 12 days. What I recommend is Zumdahl; Zumdahl covers all the spectrum of gen chem not only in AP but some orgo section (which should be sufficient for the SAT 2) at the back of the book. IF you do not a copy, rent one online and have it overnight ship.
If your local library has one copy, GET it.

I feel as if Barron skips over the important problem solving skills, very crucial for chemistry.

Hey guys, what have you been getting on your practice tests?
I’ve gotten 780 in barrons and 790 on PR. Could have gotten an 800, made some silly mistakes.
Do you think i have a solid shot at an 800?

TheAnomalist, could you expand on that? like what problem solving skills come on the SAT chem?

Hello guys,

I’ve been using Barron’s to study for Chem II, and I’ve been wondering about the separation/preparation laboratory procedures in the book. How detailed do we need to know these? The Barron’s practice tests has a bunch of those questions but other resources like Sparknotes don’t even mention them. Tips? Tricks?

Also, I took AP Chem (this year) and I’d like to know how much of an overlap there is between it and the SAT II. The SAT “curriculum” is super un-specific about what exactly is on the test (compared to AP anyway) so which special topics (besides O-Chem of course) are significant and different?

Thanks!
